hi everyone. i was at a sandbox and i always hear about ass hats that spam u . well i seen a bunch of boxes and it started out slow and go worse. and it had a repeating music to it.. if i camed around i could hear the music get louder so i knew the source was close by . i finally found it and clicked on it . that brought up a pie menu and i clicked more and it went away. i then ask other ppl if they seen all the boxes to and they said no. so my question is . did some one target me? and if so how did they only do it to me? this happens all the time. not sure why and always at sandboxes . no where else. but i had to actually find the box that was producing the boxes and music. and click it to shut it off. like it was me that did it and it wasnt . i dont know how to do that sh## .. please some one tell me how this only happened to me so i can prevent it . :(

A lot of those toys wander around randomly and latch onto the closest avatar that shows up in a scanner. The object may have rezzed "helpers" that in turn did the same thing.

does this mean only i would see the spam if it rezed on to me? and once i found it . it was a red box with hitler on it. and it was under a building. i had to cam to find it and click it to shut it off. but once i shut it off is it off of me?

You might have been the only one to notice it, or if some sides were transparent, it might have only been obvious to you since they would have been facing you. You'll sometimes see mainland privacy walls set up the same way, only visible from certain angles.

The swarm of boxes could have been scripted to derez on touch to avoid ARs or something like that, or it could have been a timing coincidence. Ctrl-3, then drag-select, might work better to catch such things.

Assume someone rezzes a shitload of those boxes but only for a moment. They delete them after like two seconds hoping nobody will have noticed. If you also assume maybe your connection was a little more hosed than others', it's likely you could've been so overloaded with packets that you didn't get the ones telling you that the objects had been deleted. The objects would appear to you to just float. Selecting one of them would make the viewer show it at the position where its last update had it start moving from, and also could lead to the sim letting you know "that object you're selecting, it isn't really there." This is not uncommon and is my wild wild guess

ok this was spam after the boxes started flying everywhere and the music it was playing was over and over real annoying. the only way i found the source was the sound it was making.. i found it under a building and it was a red box with hitlers face on it.. some one put it there i was just wondering how i was the only one to see it? maybe others did see it and the person i ask said he didnt cause maybe he did it. i dont know just trying to figure out how this bull crap works.. freakin kids.

I've seen a hitler and nigger one a few times, it's massive and takes over the whole area, loud music and hundreds of boxes with the hitler etc shit written on them.

I've only ever seen it at one sandbox though.

If you can locate the source prim, won't that show who the owner is?

once i found the source prim i clicked the box and a pie menu came up so i clicked more on that and it went away i wish i would have took my time and tryed to see the owner , but im wondering how this works more then anything. im wondering if when i found the prim that was causing the spam and i shut it off . did that just shut it off in my viewer? or everyones viewer. or does everyone have to find it them selves and shut it off individualy .? just trying to figure out if some one was spaming the hole area or just me personaly ?

I've seen it once, and it's so overwhelming and disconcerting that it's hard to keep your wits about you, and remember to take pics, with the edit tool showing the name, once you DO find the source prim. But, that's needed for filing an AR. Understandable that you forgot to look to see who it belonged to and just wanted to get rid of it..

yes treasure it was hard to keep my wits . u hit that right on the head!!! but next time i will slow down and try to find a name on it. but still no one has answered my main question. is it possible that the griefer set the spam for only me to see? or did every one in that area experience it? it seemed like i was the only one who was seeing it?

When it happened on my sim, everyone that was there saw it. And sounds like the exact same thing you describe here, only, sounds like the attack I experienced was bigger, covering most of the sim. Was difficult to locate the source prim.

Okay, I know I said wild wild guess, but actually I'm pretty confident in it... if you select something and it disappears, it's usually because it wasn't there and you had missed a KillObject message.
