I was trying something this Monday night that I hope is somewhat new and refreshing in the world of SL: a Desert Island Discs night.

If you were stranded on a desert island with your three favorite CD's and a means to play them, what would they be?

That, my friends, is the ultimate question. What I plan to do is play selections from each of the three CD's sent in by the people who send them to me (preferably on a notecard). As I want to make sure I have all the right tunes, I'm putting out a call early.

So, my fine metaverse friends, would something like this interest you?

Dark Bliss is trying to steer away from the typical "Best in Blank" type contests, and drive more toward an actual social club. Part of that experience is for you, the guest, to become more involved in what YOU want to hear.

I may be Lost, but I know where my volleyball is.

I'll bite...

Does it have to be a CD? I don't buy actual full albums anymore; I just pick and choose individual songs over at iTunes.

Are you limiting the genre? For instance, what if someone's fave CD is the opera Aida? Or the Nutcracker Ballet or something classical?

Or "Zaireeka" by the Flaming Lips. It's four CDs that have to be played simultaneously.

Actually, I'm not limiting genre. The reason for this is because a Desert Island Discs night is an opportunity to learn about some new music. Not just for me, but for anyone who shows up.

I'm in the same boat you are as far as music collection: I don't buy CD's. I will sometimes pick up whole albums off various mp3 sites (not iTunes. . .kind of allergic), but mostly just get things song by song. If I really like an artist, I then seek out as much of their music as possible.

For those who don't know what CD's their favorite songs are from, this is not an issue for me. I will be looking up various albums to see what songs are on those albums (even though I probably have most, or all of the songs off any given album suggestion sent), so it's not that much more difficult to look up an artist song by song to see what album the songs belong to.

I do have some interesting album suggestions already, but I'm welcoming more. I figure the cutoff date for people to send their favorites to me would be Sunday Morning. That way I have time to do my homework before Monday night.

Especially if I don't know the music you've asked for. It's nice to do a bit of a preview and figure out which songs would fit best into the lineup.

At the moment the music ranges from classic rock, to 80s new wave, to swedish death metal (thankfully they have short songs :) ), to Adult contemporary, 60s psychedelia, Indie and Celtic folk. It should be a really interesting evening.
