I'm used to getting payments for referrals but I just received a puzzling L$3000 in 3 x L$1000 payments, all at precisely the same time, and all for referring the same avatar. Any thoughts?

Actually, I still get referral bonuses every now and then from people I referred in 2004. The transaction in my account no longer lists a resident for the refereal, but I know that I have not referred anyone to SL since 2004. One time earlier this year however it did list a resident's name, and it was the name of someone whom I know I had already gotten full referral bonuses for already, more then 3 years ago.
If you search the forums you will find this issue pops up every now and then. There is an obscure jira about it https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-873 It's the only time I can think of that a mistake LL has made has benefited me. _____________________

Ok, update.
I got another bonus this morning but this time I got an accompanying email that told me the name of the person I was getting the referral for. The transaction history still does not list the name. However, the person I received a referral bonus for is someone for whom I had already received a bonus for in 2004. This person had gone premium in 2004 and then had downgraded to basic maybe a less than a year later. It's been almost two years now that this person has upgraded back to premium. I am positive that in the last round of referral bonuses I got last year included another referral for this person. So now I've gotten at least $L6000 for referring this person. Maybe more since I don't always get an email when I get a bonus. Schweet. _____________________

Could it be that LL is just being uncharacteristically attentive to a marketing opportunity?
Seems pretty smart to occasionally remind known referrers that they could refer somebody again. |

Maybe, but in making a new alt this morning to test this out, it seems that there is no longer anything on the account creation page that allows you to list a referring resident.
Or did I miss something? _____________________

On further investagation it seems that these days there are 4 ways to get a referral bonus:
Send a postcard to the persons email address Build a SLurl™ teleport link. Use Our Refer A Friend Form Create your own URL. Forgive, its been a while since I made an alt. Still, it seems more like a mistake then a marketing strategy. But that's nothing new with LL. _____________________

My fav accounting screw up of thiers was of course the one that benefited me. When I downgraded from premium to basic my user page kept showing downgrading and they kept sending the $L500 per week to me for over a year to the tune of about $L28000
For some reason I kept forgetting to file a ticket about it. _____________________
