not your shoe size, but your foot size...
do shape makers tend to run with the smallest, the largest, or somewhere in the middle?
I'm trying to create a pair of men's boots and I'm wondering....

I'd think it would be best to have the boots modifiable, so the customer can size them to whatever size fits their avatar best. Otherwise you're dealing with customer service hell, "My boots don't fit" or more likely, nobody will buy them.

I have always had my foot size at 24. Once I had to increase a pair of boots by 150% to fit, but they have been that size for over a year and most shoes or boots fit perfectly.

I use a mod shape, so I change my foot size to fit the shoe. For standard barefoot I usually sit it about 35 or so.

The LL limits page gives the average male foot size as 'generally scaling up to 14' -
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Limits Personally... Actually, I dunno. I'd have to check. Lemme just do that... <insert pause while Skell gets up off his lounging-on-the-couch poseball and goes into Edit Appearance> Apparently I'm a size 17. Edit: Finding boots that fit my calf muscles is more challenging than getting them to fit my feet. Changing my feet is easy, and doesn't show once I have the boots on. But I have my shape just the way I want it, and I won't change my calves for any pair of boots. I'd rather mod the boots! _____________________

Thanks all, been a big help
![]() And yes, they will be mod but I was looking for sort of a 'middle of the road' thing. Thanks for the comment about calf size too! I'll remember that one ![]() *goes off humming wondering if foot size correlates with any other part of the anatomy* |

My main male avatar (which is not gigantic size like so many these days): I generally have them about 15 or so but change them depending on the shoe fit and style. I prefer mod shoes/boots or a choice of small, medium, large (you get all three sizes when you buy the shoes/boots). Usually "medium" sized shoes/boots look best on me as the large look like clown shoes based on the build of my avatar.
Female avatar: I leave her foot size at -0- about 99% of the time because most shoes seem to come in that size. Since my female av is, again, not maxed out in height, small to medium shoes look/would look okay. My alt male AV: He's a little taller and heavier build. I keep his feet closer to about 20 to 30, again depending on shoe/boot style. Again, I prefer getting small, medium and large sized shoes each time I buy a pair because some styles look good bigish, some do not. |

Standards are to design for zero, 15 and 30. (30 is usually only for males)

All Baby Monkey shoes are made to fit a size zero foot, but from the most recent release - today - all will have resize scripts. Size zero has been the default shoe size for female avatars for some time, and until I had reliable scripts to resize I have been reluctant to make shoes modifiable. However, I have always made the leg parts of boots, and any ankle straps, ribbons or cuffs both copy and modify.

I'm at zero, but I'm also small so it looks fine that way.
Contrary to apparent popular belief, I am also NOT 3'-9" tall ![]() /waves at Pixieplumb - love your shoes. You are the reason my inventory is bursting at the seams! _____________________

I change my foot size to fit the shoes. If I'm wearing non-prim shoes (which I still do sometimes) I stick at around 35. Anything less makes them look unproportionately small but I do shrink them to fit prim shoes.

Mine are usually between 20 and 30, because shoes I have fit at that size and it doesn't look too odd if I take off my shoes.
If you make multiple sizes, give the nominal size you used for them as part of the name. |

Ugly Ankle Bulge with Size Zero Feet
07-28-2008 13:01
I think my avatar feet look best about size 30. That size meshes perfectly with my calves.
When I use foot-size zero, I always see an ugly bulge all around my leg at the ankle. If you look closely at many vendors' pictures of feet wearing shoes, the ankle bulge is visible. I thought I could eliminate this bulge by changing the body-thickness, body-fat or leg-muscle settings. But no matter how big or small my body or legs, I still see a bulge at the ankles except with size 30 feet. What a shame to have a gorgeous shape with dainty feet when the perfect leg is spoiled by the mis-match where the foot meets the leg. My suggestion is that all women's shoes be available for size 30 feet. |

I am on the small end.
The best place I found shoes had small, medium and large. Usually though find shoes that I have to modify is annoying as hell. I just end up giving up buying them for bit there. _____________________

I did a sampling (back in 2005) of shoe designers so Id make the feet size "right" for most shoes.
I ended up going 0 size feet for female shapes and 30 size feet for male shapes. I guess thats been fairly accurate since I've never gotten a complaint in 3 years in business over it. If your feet or too small for a shoe it probably rarely ever shows .. if they are too big though it would be obvious. |
