Sorry to hear that. I hope you had everything important backed up. :(

And now you have to go through weeding out all those junkware items that come with a new computer -- at least with new PC's anyway. Frustrating!

Don't forget to get an external drive and turn on Time Machine this time.

Here's the "junkware" I got on my Mac:

iPhoto
iMovie
Garage Band
Nanosaur 2
Demo versions of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

Removing the demo versions involved dragging the icons into the trash.

Personally, I'd rather buy a Mac clone from HP or Lenovo and put up with the junkware, because I like the OS but I don't like Apple's hardware at all.

I found an easy, foolproof way to get rid of all the crapware that came with my laptop:

Install Linux! :p

Well, yeh, I've even bought an upgrade to iLife. That's my point, this is hardly junkware. :)

And switching from OSX to Linux? Why? UNIX is UNIX is UNIX.

Yes; but one, you pay through the nose for. :p

I was actually referring to switching from Windows to Linux. I'm not aware of too much pre-installed crapware with Macbooks or OSX installs.

Yeh, the Mac Tax is about 40%, but speaking as someone who was using (and contributing to) free UNIX before it was cool... getting an OS that doesn't suck *and* applications that don't suck is a pretty damn compelling combination. When you got a great car who cares whether the engine block is labelled "BSD", "Linux", or "Solaris"?

You got tired of getting useful things done with your computer?

*screeeeeeech!!!*

Aw, hell! Here we go!

I am a college student in my third year, in a strictly online environment. In my entire time as a student, I have managed to get all of my coursework done within the Linux environment: Writing reports, designing presentations, creating flowcharts and diagrams, even managing gantt charts. The only time I have ever had to resort to Windows was to take tests in my math classes, and that was only because the tests required an obscure IE-only plug-in. In fact, except to play The Sims, I've been hard-pressed to justify booting into Windows lately... I just simply have not needed to!

And OSX? It's pretty much Linux already, with a prettier desktop and proprietary APIs - and heftier price tag...

Every time I use Linux all it does is remind me how good Windows and OS X really are.

I'm just having fun with you. Personally, I can't stand Linux, but I'm glad it's out there.

Every time I use Windows I wonder why the **** the Gnome and KDE projects are trying to imitate it.
