A long time ago I was able to run two viewers, one for work and one for fun. Now I can't. Can you still run two viewers at the same time ?

Should be able to.
Right click your SL link on your desktop, and go to 'properties'. In the path field, add '-multiple' to the end, and it should be able to do two at once. _____________________

The 'multiple' option is still there. However, for the 1.20 RC the command line switch seems to have changed to '--' instead of '-'
