Since I joined SL I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how SL works, land purchase, building, vehicles and so on. Recently I found myself wondering how clothes work. Up till now I have to admit I haven't really given clothing and fashion much thought, what I needed I just bought (which extends to about two T shirts and a pair of jeans). I can see how wearing something formed from flexi prims and basic prims works..simply build it like anything else and attach it to some part of the body. The T-shirt I'm wearing though that's different, it's not made from prims, it's a textural layer (I think).

So here's the question..how does that work then..?

I realise this is an extremely broad question and any pointers in the direction of vast reams of literature would be welcome. I really don't expect to figure out the SL AV apparel/fashion industry from one forum thread (but if you think you can give it a go..feel free to try..). Any suggestions to good software packages (particularly the sort of 'must have' type progs) to assist (there are a few available in SLEx I noticed..I even bought one..I wont mention which but it allows you to 'paint layers' ;) ) would also be appreciated.

I suspect there are a lot of new (or even not so new) residents out there who might be thinking they would like to get into designing clothes but just don't know how to get started..so this might be a useful thread for them also.

Thanks again..Perre..:)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I am still trying to figure out UV thing but I have spent a lot of time making textures just for the appearance slider and experimenting.
That good place to start.

Hi Perre,

First of all, like Ann said, head for the texturing forum.
Once you're there, read all the stickies at the top.
There's a lot of information to digest and plenty of links to tutorials and the like.
Another tip I would add is to check out: slnatalia.blogspot.com .. her tutorialls are well written and easy to follow.
And if you have any specific questions left, the folks over at the texturing tips forum are usually happy to answer them.

Have fun!
