After reading a different thread, /327/6d/226672/1.html, I began to wonder just how long my shopping area takes to rez for someone that has never been there. I realize, qraphics cards, connection speed, memory etc. play a major roll as to how long a scene takes to rez, and that doesn't even take into consideration for the textures involved. I decided to clear my cache on my home system, fairly low-end and slow DSL connection.(680 kps) Well, I was disappointed to see that it took about 2 minutes for everything, including the textures to load. As I stood there watching my creations come into being, I was curious as to why certian things rezz first. Is there any specific order, (I realize textures will usually be last), that objects rez? Later, at work on basically the same spec pc with a lesser graphics card and using the standard viewer, I tried the same test. Gee! Twice the loading time and the dsl connection is 2.5 mbps. The question is, How long would you wait, before getting fustrated and tp'ing elswhere? Am I killing my business?

I wait about 2-3 minutes and most should have rezzed by then (or at the least enough to start walking/browsing) or I'll poof back out. I've been instant tp'ing back out of (non-furniture) stores that have a few dozen sculpties around though, from experience rezzing there will take at least 2-3 times longer for me than normal and the lag will be awful so I no longer bother. (Edited to add that it's different for places I don't expect to spend money - say The Forum Hangout -, in that case it's "However long it takes"

I must be impatient. After about 1 minute, I get antsy... 2 minutes (very rare)? I'm gone unless I absolutely need whatever they're selling.

I answered whatever it takes - providing I really want something from that area. If I'm just popping in to check it out and it takes forever to rez *poof* I'm outta there.

In most cases(when SL isn't lagging) my viewer rezzes 256 meters in about 3 minutes. When a script rezzes an object, it is done so instantaneously, when you rez an object, it ussually takes a few seconds.

It's taken longer recently for me...could be because I'm several updates behind but I do notice that when I first log in I have to hang out for a few minutes (like 5) before I can tell if I'm in a room or if there's anyone around me (other than hearing voice chat or seeing typing). It also depends on the sim. I've gone to some places and things pop up quick for me and others take a couple minutes. Places with a ton of scripts running take much longer. Makes for a tough time when doing combat!

...sometimes, I walk forward & reteleport to place if it's taking too long to rez and I notice things seem to snap to it faster? No evidence this really works, but appears to?

From: Bobbyb30 Zohari What was your rez distance? (That would affect your wait time by quite a bit.) I normally keep the distance at 128m. If I am in a scenic area or just want to pan around, I will set it much higher. The WindLight client is a lot faster for me with VBO enabled, I get double the framerate. As the client continues to improve, (and it has), things will probably be better. Sculptys seem to take forever to rez, always the last thing to pop into shape. Not to get off subject, but the WindLight has improved my FPS by 3 times. In areas (class 5 sim), with 20 plus people, my frame rate went from 4fps to 12-15fps. I plan to clear my cache and re-visit my shops several times, just to see if there is any pattern as to the rezzing orders, and if it seems that there is, try to eliminate the problem objects or at least modify them. I want people to hang around and shops, not leave in fustration.

A trick I use for slow-rez scenes is to run my draw distance up to 512 for about ten seconds, then down to 96 again (normal for me in most scenes). Seems to jog the pixels loose.

Takes about 2 minutes after a cache clear for my class 4 mainland home to get all the nearby objects and most textures loaded..
Of course, hovering your mouse over something makes the textures come in a lot faster. Bit of practice and you can get most of a new place up and visible pretty quickly.

From: Yrrek Gran That was something else that I was curious about. Do you people with high end machines ever get extremely long rez times or is it just us poor folk that suffer? Well, now that you mention it , I do have a rather spiffy new computer! But another thing that can happen is you have gone into a sim which has low FPS. Look on the stats page. If it shows 7 fps in the sim (which it did in one sim today, when I was shopping), things just aren't GONNA rez in any reasonable period of time, and you might as well go to another sim and come back later, when it may be fixed. coco P.S. I also keep my draw distance pretty low - usually 160 or lower.

Everything always takes a while to rez for me. I usually just tp to a place and if things don't show in a few seconds I will go to my open firefox window and start reading up on an article on the net and by the time I'm finished with it the enitre area will have loaded in SL.

From: SqueezeOne Pow It's taken longer recently for me...could be because I'm several updates behind ..... Ironically it's the opposite for me. Been away a few weeks and came back to find 1.18.4.3 recommended. Didn't do it immediately and everything fine (I think I was running 1.18.3). Finally got round to installing update last night & texture loading has slowed to a crawl. Installed appropriate version of Nicholaz and no improvement. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this on the last update? (Well, alright, it's now not the last update - WILL IT NEVER END????) To answer the question - I generally find somewhere to sit my AV, set Away and go and make a cup of tea and give it as long as it needs. SL may not be a 'game', but without the graphics I don't see the point - might as well stick with the text version you guys play when the monkeys have broken it.

I'm from the UK. I go and make a cup of tea or do some tidying up around the house for a while. When I get back it's usually. Mostly. There. Then I realise I'm standing outside yet another Bijoux jewellery shop and TP to another generic (though exciting and different according to the search result) mall instead. Once there I quite often go for a shave if needed, maybe change the cat lit or take some other rubbish out while I wait. Once I've finished looking at the same row of Neko themed shops I've found there .... I .... Oh wait. That assumed the teleport worked.

I wait however long it takes, unless it's takes all evening for it all to rez. I don't shop very often, so when I go to a shop, I wait, 90% it's worth the wait. I enjoy looking at the buildings. I enjoy other people's creativity.
If you don't wait, you miss so much. Some shop owners put a lot of time building their shops, I think the least we can do is give them a few minutes of our time, doncha think?
BTW, I do have a good computer, so my wait may be less than others.........
