Advice needed for getting rid of the voice update

I downloaded and installed the update with voice in it by mistake. It will teach me not to do two things at once. Is there any way I can go back to pre-voice?

The easiest thing is to do what most people have done.

Edit > Preferences > Voice, and unclick the "enable voice" or whatever it is it's called.

Then you're using the latest client, but without all the negatives that come from using voice.

Thanks Broccoli but that still means i have this horrible Communicate button instead of a friends list and IM separate.

Also, I used to do Ctrl Alt 6 to clear the distant haze which doesn't seem to work any more Is there an alternative?

There's always the Nicholaz viewer (18xf is the most current version) that allows for voice but brings the old chat and IM setup back.

And I think all Ctr - Alt - Number functions are now Ctr - alt -FNumber functions.

Good way to do it is to uninstall SL and then reinstall with the old client pointed to above.

Better way is after that to download the Nicholaz viewer level 18i. It fixes a lot of issues.

I was using the Nicholaz x series of viewers, but after reading his blog about how LL had somehow managed to create new problems in parts of the code that seem unrelated to voice and his frustration with the voice client quality, I went back to his "old school" version (I see he just came out with 18j) and SL has never worked so well for me.

I'm using the 18xf without a lot of problems, actually.

Then again, the old viewer with Nicholaz 18 is probably a bit more stable yet.

Yeah, xf worked ok, but if you read Nicholaz's blog, he quit working on the x series because the LL voice client was just so bad to begin with (and not just because of voice) and he recommended non-voice users back off to his old school viewer (which it seems he is still making changes to).

I had a problem with the x series in editing, when I was working with textures and tried to apply a new texture it took forever for the texture browser to pop up. Downgrading to 18i eliminated that delay, as well as seems to have made texture loading in general much faster.

Reload the previous SL version, The one enabling voice is an Optional Update. Just ask around, someone will send it to you, or tell you where you can get it.
