How to subdivide land with a structure there?

Is there a trick I'm missing, possibly a way I can temporarily hide builds so that I can easily subdivide my hotel's land into several sections? It's a nightmare trying to temporarily move floors and walls that are in my way. And subdividing into anything but a perfect rectangle this way seems to be impossible.

Next time I'll subdivide 1st, and build based on that. But I'm way too far along to redo the building. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Go into the Client debug menu (ctrl-alt-shift-d) and under client, go to rendering, types, and disable rendering of Simple and Volume. shortcut: ctrl-alt-shift 1 and ctrl-alt-shift 9. That will remove visibility of the prims on the land.

press control-alt-shift D to bring up the client and server menus. The client->rendering->types->simple. This will stop the client from rendering most prims.

You all are awesome -- can't wait to log on with my new knowledge. And you are all invited to cocktails on the party deck of the hotel!

Just be careful to ensure that each land parcel that you carve it up into still supports enough prims! It would be a shame if you had a nicely built hotel, and on turning prim visibility back on found gaping holes... because the parcels were too small to support the prims that were already there.

If the parcels are still owned by the same avatar or group, subdividing doesn't matter; the prim allowance of all parcels that you own in a sim are added together. The benefit of subdividing would be to get separate media settings for each plot.

Exactly, Shirley. I'm trying to minimize radio wars between the tenants. So at least each "column" of tenants will be able to listen to a separate channel at once.

I'm being as up-front about the issues involved with this as possible, and recommending in my notecards that anyone who is going to have trouble sharing, or being considerate to their neighbors, rent from one of my single-parcel spaces or rent elsewhere.

And the parcels are all in the same group. But thanks for the warning Ceera. I definitely won't transfer any of the parcels back to my sole ownership or to a different group.
