All Search Broken?

Is anyone else having trouble with the in world All Search?

It worked great until about a week or so ago and now, no matter what search terms I put in or what category, I only get the "Top Classifieds - Paid Ads" with 8 little merchant ads.

Am I doing something wrong?

I havent noticed any problems with Search myself its occasionally a bit slower than normal but nothing other than this. Hope you find a solution.

I had similar problems with the Showcase a couple weeks ago.

Try going to Edit > Preferences > Web and clear the browser cache.

Are you on an old (1.18-based) client? I had that problem about 2 weeks ago, newer clients (I think from 1.19 on) worked fine.

(Technical details follow -- apparently they silently changed the search API to require the session parameter, which 1.18 did not yet send. I fixed my self-compiled 1.18-based client to send that, and All search worked again for me).

Yes, I am on the 1.18-based client with the Nicholaz overlay. The weird thing is All Search worked great until about a week ago. Are you saying that something has been changed about the search API recently? And if so, is there some way for me to "tweak" it back again? (I know a fair amount about PC's but not if it gets really complicated )

Yes. As far as I could tell from my debugging attempts, clients from 1.19 on send a session parameter which clients 1.18 and before didn't yet send. Server-side, this parameter wasn't mandatory until a week or so ago, when the All search started requiring it. Don't think we can file a JIRA on problems with 1.18 though ;)


Not really. You'd have to be compiling your own client from the source code, since this needs to be changed in the code. I don't think Nicholaz will fix this any time soon (I actually started compiling my own when Nicholaz said he wouldn't really release new ones -- I just can't let go of my 1.18.5 BE-v ;)).

Your best bet is probably the 1.19.0-based version of Cool Viewer ( http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/solid for the Windows version), it isn't actually all that different from 1.18.5-BE. Same old pre-Windlight renderer, a lot of the same fixes / UI changes / etc. that Nicholaz did, and a lot more fixes as well as features that you're missing out on with 1.18 (I'm fairly sure Cool Viewer has Mono backported to the 1.19.0 branch, and mirrored sculpties and all that). And whenever LL changes something, Cool Viewer is updated very quickly. (I'm using a 1.21.-based Cool Viewer myself when I'm not using my ancient one :))

(The All Search thing probably did start more like 2 weeks ago...I just didn't have anything to search until a week ago and the last search prior to that all was ok. )
