......who buys secondhand clothes for yard sales?

I ask because tho I would just do a yard sale myself...I just don't have the time to wear every outfit, take a snap and box em up....... so I'm thinking the next best thing would be to sell em cheap to someone who runs a consistant yard sale shop.

The stuff I'm getting rid of is all women's clothes that I've bought over the last 2.5 years...not freebies or my own creations.....so I'd at least like to recoup a few L's. I do plan to put a few in my shop (the one's that came with snapshots of the outfits lol) but the rest.....e-gads...... :p way too much work changing and snapping pics. LOL

If you know of any place that buys stuff....an IM in-world would be great. :o

Oh noes! You can't do this! Yard sales will be the death of content creators and innovation!

i did this last year...used the search with the term *buy inventory* and it yielded a few people who do indeed buy inventory. Despite thinking id get very little I did get quite a lot..but as always in many things. the quality of the items counts.

The best part is I get I told I am out of touch for saying that people are spreading this FUD intentionally and then people come on and repeat the same FUD again. Priceless.

Alright alright......LOL

Let's see...I could simply delete said items cause I have way too much stuff I don't use any more.....or I could set it all out as freebies and be done with it.

As for content creators....hmmmm........much of what I'm getting rid of is from places that I shop at frequently...which makes me a loyal first time buying customer.....and one of the reasons I remain so....is because like anything in my RL closet....I can in fact, pass it on if I no longer wear/use it.

The fact that my fiancee's model older sister just gave me (RL here, I'm talking the real world) a huge pile of clothes she never wears any more.....does NOT hurt the designers who made them in the first place. If anything...it promotes their designs more thoroughly to the masses. Hmmmph.....lol

Ok.....nuff said....it's not like I can't take a loss......it's already a loss since I have things in my inventory totaling gawd only knows now many USD that will never benefit me other then in SL. Peace Out.

I agree with you all the way. Except on the ditching of the stuff.
If you cannot find someone who will buy it for a reasonable price then either give it all to the first non-irritating noob and make their day, give it to a close friend or see if a close friend will buy it bulk sight unseen for a nominal amount.

EDIT: Another option is to see if you can auction it inworld.

@Milla. Dont just give your stuff away if you dont want to. Get what you can for it. You do have permission from the designers you bought the stuff from to do this. And while there maybe a move away from Transfer by some designers today in SL, this move has no bearing on you or the designers who made your stuff for you.

And even if you only get 500L for the whole lot, its better than nothing and you can buy some really great new stuff for 500L.

I have sold some of my stuff in a yard sale as a Inv clean out. I have also sold them at a cheaper rate so that I am not trying to out do the original creator. I do not see this as ripping off the creator.. as I see it, I have paid full price for it.. and I am only selling the original version that I bought...

If there is a creator that has had a problem with this (was IM flammed once for it) I tell them to make their creations no transfer... Nothing illegal or unethical about it... just cleaning out the inventory and making a simple buck or 2 at the same time.. but please.. dont sit there and think I am gonna become a millionaire, buy my own sim on your creations...lol.. they are out of style thus why I am selling them... lol

I actually have a folder that I put outfits in that I no longer want and that are transferable. If I ever get around to a yard sale, I will use the stuff, but in the meantime, if I come across a newb that seems really nice and maybe in need of a few things, I'll drop a few outfits on them.

My method is pretty easy. As soon as I wear it, it is either put in that folder and given away or trashed, depending on perms.

Ummm, actually you have that backwards -- I spend a fortune (and do too many hunts) and therefore can only wear items once, and then changing daily I am still accumulating too fast.
:o

I do have a few, very very few, favorite things that I keep - but they are no transfer anyway, so nobody else could benefit from them.

This is the reason I have slowed down my acquisition of clothing. I have several months worth of clothing to air sometime.
Until then they will languish in my inventory waiting...

Well......I already put a bunch of boxes all around my shop and land......as a freebie hunt....I just don't have the patience to take pics of all the stuff......but I also put out a tip jar....so who knows.
There's plenty more that I haven't put out......and I've sold furniture and stuff at yard sales in the past.......clothes are just such a pain in the a$$. :p
But...I do wear things more then once.....and often I forget about things and when I'm come across them months later...it's like they're new all over again! LOL

We do a big RFL garage sale every year..so all year long when I buy something I try it on and if I do not like it (which happens a lot) I put it in a "resale" folder. I only buy transfer clothes for this purpose. It is amazing how well clothes from certain designers will resale (*MIS*) for example. And if you are lucky enough to have bought transfer shoes they get snapped up almost instantly. And the money all goes to cancer research so it is a win/win situation for me:)

But it takes weeks of setting it up...trying on the clothes, taking pics if they did not come with one... and getting them all in boxes. And because we only use vendor scripts where the money goes directly to RL ACS we have to have someone go through every hour and delete the boxes that have already been bought or someone will try and buy it again.

It is a lot of hard work and takes quite a few hands to accomplish it...but is amazingly worth it:)

Wish I had the opportunity to offload some older outfits. I have a box under the stairs in my house with at least 200+ full piece outfits in it, and they're all no transfer :(

I love this thread :) I love it more because in another thread that was discussing resell of transfer clothing I was told virtually nobody wants to transfer clothing, I am in a minority and should just be happy with the status quo. Go figure

I thoroughly encourage those who have transfer items to sort them out and either sell or donate them to a worthy cause and fully endorse those who are willing to buy/take them wholesale and sort through them in order to resell them.

Vive le transfer!!!
