I just bought (rented) this region yesterday. I think it's got something to do with the privileges. I own part of another region in the same estate and this problem does not happen there at all. I'm trying to build a TP that will get me up to my 4000m skybox. I need to sit on a prim to make it work. But the estate owner is asleep (good for him) and I'll have to address this tomorrow.

so you were sitting? lol you made it sound like you were getting the sit message when you were dropping the prim.. aim for the very edge of the prim ..sometimes that works better..

Region permissions won't have anything to do with that. Normally, that message crops up having to do with the shape of the prim you are trying to sit on.

try setting the object to "sit" when left clicked. that usually works better than right clicking-sit.

It's a bug. Some where around the prim you are trying to sit on is a large sculpty. The prim your trying to sit on is inside the bounding box of that sculpty.
Try rezzing a chair or anything with a scripted sit. Sitting on that will workaround the sculpty bounding box bug.
I have an 8 sim square sculpted mountain range (thanks Vincent!!)hanging off the sides of my small estate. The mega bounding box breaks all non scripted sits estate wide.
There was a fix once when Sidewinder was in working on H4. But typicially it's reverted to broken.

it is not always a nearby sculpty
if the prim does not have a sit script in it, then sitting on a basic prim can and will often cause that no room to sit error
try moving closer to the prim, and as mentioned click closer to the edge of the prim (the edge closest to you)

=) Very true. Lots of other stuff causes sit fails. The bounding box one is just very familiar to meh. And the cause of lots of questions round my place. =)
