The latest download is slow, bitty and keeps crashing. Am I the only one? Any SIMPLE solutions at all? I should note that I am not in a city but am living in an isolated location, all on my own, on the shore of a wide lake, with neighbours a long way off ... sounds like a Hollywood scenario for a creepy film but does the distance from a major urban area have an impact on my internet reception of sl?

Hmn, I usually click on the downloads as soon as I see them, but for some reason haven't clicked on this one the last few times I went inworld. Guess I'll wait a while.
But, more helpfully (I hope): There's a full discussion of the download in the Current Version Feedback section of this message board. And if no one here can give you a definitive answer on the 'distance from your provider' question, maybe more 'tech'-types are posting over in that other section.
(I would guess that distance from cities, in and of itself, wouldn't affect your computer's ability to handle SL. But a greater distance does mean more opportunities for problems with the physical apparatus that brings you your Internet access, I suppose. So...kinda possible. But someone more knowledgeable will be able to tell you more.)

Thanks Ponsonby. I have never met a live and real "Ponsonby" by the way.

I personally I just think its SL grid and being Saturday or post update things on server end. I haven't updated newest RC but everywhere I have went earlier this evening there been crashing and major lag issues. I didn't log back in because I gave up after I tried to relog after I was having major freezes and when I login I was stuck under the sea in some unknown sim, couldn't do anything 3 times.

I haven't experienced any major problems, but my sl friends have, and its starting to get annoying
Any newbie is going to be put off I think. It needs sorting out

You might want to look at your graphics settings, in Preferences. I noticed the browser was slow, and it configured its settings to what it 'thought' was optimal. I had to go in and check CUSTOM to tweak them. (I need to keep better notes.

I am on the lowest setting but I did notice even on lowest setting with particles and draw distance off and everything turned down on the new mandatory update I was able to turn up my sky really high Maybe its the WL skies fault.

From: Jig Chippewa Thanks Ponsonby. I have never met a live and real "Ponsonby" by the way. It's a last name that's somewhat well-known in the UK--don't think I've ever heard of it being used as a first name, either. ^_^
