Melting Avatar!?

Good morning all,

I don't know any other way to describe this but every few minutes my avatar looks like it's melting. My hair, face, clothes kinda blend together. Now at first I thought maybe it was just my computer and it was ok because nobody else could see it. But recently this was happening in front of someone else and they said I was getting naked!! I really don't want to be getting naked every few minutes!

Could someone please tell me what my problem is and how to fix it? I would really appreciate it.

It sounds like you are constantly rebaking your avvie. I'm not sure what could be causing it to happen so often, or so severely. Normally it is just when you change outfits. Or when you choose to rebake by using Ctrl+Alt+R.

It sounds like you're "rebaking", but I don't know why it would be happening every few minutes.

It tends to happen more frequently with lower end graphic cards - this could be one cause.

This has happened to me too.....it doesn't happen all the time but I do notice sometimes when I first log in.....I'll get the melting/rebake look intially and then it will sort of level off. The only time it 'should' happen at all is as someone said...changing skins or clothes, but it's usually a quick blur and then things become clear.

I do have a really good graphics card tho....so sometimes I wonder if it isn't just SL on certain days. If it was a g-card....it would happen all the time until the card was updated or replaced (I'd think).

My graphics card is a higher end card for gaming. I play other games besides this that require a really good card.

I don't know what rebaking is so I'm not sure what you mean. I just want it to go away, lol

I've got a crappy video card (SiS) and this happens to me all the time. I'm a walking Janet Jackson. Someone from the forum gave me a tip that helps most of the time----go to Edit, Preferences, Adv. Graphics, and turn the Outfit Composite Limit down to 2. And Clear Cache at least once a day.

This won't give you a better video card, but it might make do for you until you can replace it....

sorry, but the title of the thread.. and seeing the word "rebaking" ...for some reason, just made me think of chocolate.

So I tried turning the Outfit Composite limit down to 2 and it seemed to work for a short time but now it is doing it again. I don't know what to do

My graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS. I am not sure if that is the problem or not.

What's wrong with being naked? I'm naked everywhere I go in SL!

Well nothing is wrong with it but I don't want people to complain! haha

You might have a driver problem.

Do a forum search for 8600 and another search for 8600 GTS and another separate seaerch for 8600GTS and see if any useful threads appear.

Check to make you system is not running hot. Check that dust isn't blocking any fans.

You might try setting the Preferences Graphics setting for video memory to less that the amount of video ram you have - just to see if it makes any difference. You could try changing the, umm, avatar vertex settting.
