High res snapshot problem

Apologies if this is the wrong forum to ask this ...

I was trying out high res snapshots today, and when I tried to take a pic with some flames in it this happened:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/7994626@N08/1489644561/

half the flames don't show up. This only happens at high resolution, and the effect is more marked the higher the res goes.

does anybody know what is causing this, and can anything be done about it?

I don't know if this could be it, but the cache fills when you take pictures and it could just mean it's at its limit, perhaps. Can any knowledgeable person set me straight?

I don't have a solution, but I can tell you I see the exact same thing with the clouds. In my case, it's usually a vertical divide... clouds on one side of the screen, none on the other, with an abrupt cutoff in the center.

I always take my snaps to disk, so I just make sure to check each one after taking it. Sometimes I just need to retake the picture, and other times it can be fixed by adjusting the camera angle a bit. When it just won't work, I turn off clouds altogether.

I don't take many pictures of particles, but I've been told clouds are generated in the same way. The flames in your picture are also particle effects, so I'm guessing it's the same bug.

Coincidentally, my hi-res snapshots are often missing whole prims, usually ones that are off in the distance. Although it's true my graphics card is weak, it's weird to see stuff on the screen, but have it missing in the photo.

thanks folks,

I shall:

1) clear cache
2) mess around with camera angles
3) save up for a new graphics card (unless there is some clever way of bullying the one I have into drawing faster? - ATI Mobility Radeon X1400)

Though it requires potentially more editing and setup, Alt-PrtScrn (in Windows) is my best friend. Plus, without having to stop by the Client menu, I don't make the obvious Polaroid camera sound in world.

What you see is what you get.

a regular PrtScrn takes a shot of the entire screen. You'll have to edit it in a graphics program (even Windows Paint works.) Hit PrtScrn, then paste into your program.

Unfortunately, print-screen does not take a high res screenshot. :(

The high res option gives an image that is twice the size of my screen. Well, four times... 2H x 2W. It makes for much better images overall, especially if you are bedeviled by jaggies.

The flames are on an alpha channeled prim, correct? Well... I can think of one thing that can cause this and that's the stupid Alpha Sorting issue of Open GL.
