Anyone else notice that the Mainland auction pricing for 512m's started at L$1000-1200 today?

Looks comparable to the cheapest land for sale so probably a sensible move but the land market is in quite the rut at the minute.

LL have a quandry in auction start prices as they don't want to be seen as devaluing the land market.

There was a parcel at auction last week that I really wanted to bid on. Mature, protected waterfront, nice neighboring builds.

The only reasons I didn't are 1) the Mature market is still in freefall as people run to Zindra to protect the rights they originally paid for with Mature, and 2) that parcel would have put me in the bottom of the $75/mo tier bracket. If only it had been 1000m2 smaller...

Don't forget you can always rent tier in those situations from Elanthius Flagstaff.

Since the Zindra fuss started, Mainland prices dropped about 20%. They are holding steady at a base of L$2.0 a meter, or about L$1050 for the cheapest flat green 512.

I looked closer. The 512m's in the Linden auction that are selling on 7/18 are starting at L$700, not L$1000. The ones on the block for this afternoon started much higher than that based on bid prices.

I've never gotten my head around how tier rental works. How would it keep me from paying $75/month in this case:

Land owned by Lindal's group: 9982 m2
Maximum land group can own at $40/mo tier level: 9011 m2
Maximum land Lindal can own at $40/mo tier level: 8192 m2
Lindal donates 8192 m2 ($40) of tier to group.

The ninjas donate to the group, so:

Land owned by Lindal's group 9982m2
Maximum group can own for Lindal to pay LL USD$40: 9011m2
Maximum Lindal can own at $40/mo: 8192m2

Lindal rents 971m2 from the ninjas and they donate it to Lindal's group, I don't know the exact figures but it would be a lot less than USD$35 a month to do this.

It's $.25 per meter per week. So you would pay $40 to LL and $243L per week to Elanthius, which works out to about $4.06 a month.

Lin, IM me in world and I'll get back to you with the name of someone I was talking with about renting tier. It was cheaper than the incremental bump to the Lindens (IIRC) and they treated me very fairly when I was negotiating for another parcel in Basenville (which I didn't end up buying).

Damn, now I feel stupid for not snagging that parcel. It was next door to an airport and a marina, for crying out loud.

I expect that once adult content moves are completed and all the PG people feel safe to come into SL then mainland prices will shoot up again.

It will be interesting to see how it will stack up pricewise against Adult rated land in the longer term. And it will also be interesting to see how much the Adult content will need to grow over time. I tend to think that land on the Adult continent will command a higher price generally tho.

When they both buy their bonus 512s it'll be such a strain on supply that LL will have to auction Gaeta sims again. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

since it was already answered, I just wanted to chime in and say that the ninja's tier rentals rocks, it saves me a ton of money, lets me do the increments I want to do, and still own my land.

I am debating dropping my tier from LL and renting it all from Elanthius
(the only thing holding me back is my own fears LOL) I like having some security of knowing I am paying the bulk of my tier directly to LL, not that I think Elanthius would run out on us or anything, but who knows what rules LL will come up with next.

I wish LL let us pay tier per sqm, instead of the way it jumps up now.

"I wish LL let us pay tier per sqm, instead of the way it jumps up now."

I absolutely agree with this statement not only for greater fairness in getting what your paying for but I think it would also motivate more people to own mainland.

Also just a question.. and it seems silly I have not learned how to do this yet after all this time.
But how do you quote only a portion of a post?

The most recent 8192 put out there still had an opening bid at L$3/m

I actually have pretty much done this. I have the 512 that comes with my premium membership and I rent all the rest of my tier from Elanthius.

Like I did above, to quote only a portion of a post, your first step is to quote the entire post. Then you delete the text you don't want quoted, leaving behind only the text you want to quote. Make sure, though, that where it starts with a [ then QUOTE=(user's name here) followed by a closing ], you leave all of that intact. Likewise at the end it says [ then /QUOTE then another ], leave those alone too.

You can also split it up by coping and pasting the entire quote block and then selectively deleting portions of it, so you can respond to things individually, like this:

From: Infiniview Merit
"I wish LL let us pay tier per sqm, instead of the way it jumps up now."

Responding to that point alone.

And a response to just that part.

Ditto on the rental of Ninja tier donations to group.
I only started it when I wanted to expand ' a little bit' above the 1/2 sim of land but avoid the sudden jump to full-sim tier level.

Which prompts me to think that a post to the Message to the Past thread would be:
2007 - Rent tier from Ninja
2008/9 - Keep doing it

Alternatively ...
2007/8/9 - Stay on your First Land

Actually you wuld have had yutr tier bumped up a level when you wont the parcel as they automatically assign it to your name.

Which i found out after having live chat assure me this WOULDNT happen and that L$ uctiosn were setfor sale to you in world after you won.

Luckily Guy Linden sorted it for me andre set my tier so i didnt have to paycos their customer service people's stuffed up

Make sure you do all the math first. In some scenarios it's cheaper to pay all or part of your tier to LL.

To have some more fun with tier math, make 128 alts, all premium at the yearly rate. They can own a full mainland sim tier free. The cost is $9216 up front. The stipend of $300/week selling at $259L/$US with the 3.5% transaction fee totals $7439.81 for the year. The net cost of the sim is $148/month. Less if you can find a place for your alts to camp.

If there's one person in it for the long haul it's Elanthius. I would fearlessly recommend renting tier from him.

You delete the bits inside the square bracketed QUOTE tags that you don't want.
