Jed, you can lower the settings in Edit/Preferences/Graphics to turn off most or all of the Windlight features and get something close to the pre-Windlight appearance.

Or you can install an older viewer, say 1.18.5.3

If you wanted it off permanently, you could download the last supported non-WL viewer, 1.19.0.5.

There are also some 3rd party sites with older functioning viewers available, like this one:

Otherwise, use the graphics settings in Preferences...I can't give you specifics on that, because I refuse to use WL-enabled viewers. :)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Edit / Preferences - Graphics (make sure Custom is set)

* Atmospheric Shaders will be the biggest performance drain of them all (gives you fluffy skies)
* Water Reflections (ties in with Basic Shaders) you can control differently although turning it on/off never had much impact at all
* Basic Shaders handles - among others - ripple water and glow

Avatar Imposters is meant to increase performance, although you might just want to turn that off for how horrible it looks.

(Somewhat related: Anisotropic filtering and Antialiasing under Advanced can have an even larger impact than Atmospheric Shaders so depending on whether you can live without them check to make sure they're both turned on as a start)
