so for the last week i've been tracking how many people come to my place during the day.
i have nothing to offer, there's nothing for sale, and i have never made an announcement to come over or had a party.

so 2 nights ago i check my visitor count. 560 people came to my island!!! ????

then last night i checked when i got home from work, and 250+ people came by. ???

is it just people island hopping? (i'm on a private island)

i wish i could turn a video on and record all day to see what's up.

what's your thoughts on this?
no biggie, and i could care less, but i had to wonder.

Are you looking at a true visitor counter, or the traffic counter?

People do just island hop - when I was building the new Botanical Gardens I didn't have the sim listed in search yet but had a constant stream of people just "dropping by" out of nowhere.

Right... in the About Land dialog box there is a number for Traffic; this is a number that has never really been figured out by residents but measures the amount of time that an avatar spends on a given parcel, and translates it into a number. You could very well be adding to that count just by being there yourself! If the land is deeded to a group, then every avatar, including the owner, add to "traffic."

This is how so many shops have huge huge traffic numbers. They park fake avatars, or "traffic bots" on their parcel to make the servers count them and add to the time measurements, to make the shop look like more people have visited. There's a whole big argument over whether this is ethical, and whether it contributes to lag.

:)

the traffic counter is one point for every minute that a unique avatar spends on your land i think. so to get 250 would potentially require just two av's on your land for 2 hours or so.

someone will correct me if i'm wrong...

STrange, when the land I bought yesterday showed 0 all night, and I had a few people there with me for a good amount of time.

Traffic usually takes 24 hours to update. The value you see is for the previous 24 hours.
