I am building a tga texture that contains a transparent alpha channel to create a window. I have applied to one side of a prim and have noticed that effects like shine or bump mapping don't show up on the side with the tga on it. Has anyone else seen this? Is are there any way to get the effects to work or is it a feature/bug of the engine?

I may be mistaken, but I believe shine & bumpmapping use the same channel that alpha transparency uses, so they can't exist on the same surface on a prim.
32 bits...8 for red, 8 for blue, 8 for green, 8 for another channel (alpha or shiney or bumpmapping)
Or, so I've been led to believe.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, as I'd love to have shiney alpha's for windows as well.

Hello You are correct: a prim cannot be transparent and use shiny or bump at the same time. It has been like this since the beginning and is not considered a bug. However, there _is_ a hacky way to get something shiny and transparent at the same time. It uses invisiprims, which have unique properties: they are transparent, yet will obscure alpha behind them. They can also be made shiny, for transparent shiny. They cannot however be textured. If you want a textured shiny transparent object, this is what you do: have 1 prim slightly smaller than an identical one. The smaller one gets invisishiny. The outer layer gets the alpha texture. Adjust transparency for how much shiny shows through. I can't post it here, but you can get a copy of the invisiprim shiny scripts at my shop in Chopsaw at 188,104,25. There is a box with "touch for invisiprim shiny!" that will give them to you. You can also see an example of how this is used on the sculpted gems in the shop.

Like the title say, in a prim with no textures and no alpha I was trying to change shininess and nothing happened.

Sorry...I guess my reading comprehension isn't what it ought to be. I could have sworn you said in your first statement that where you were applying a tga with a transparent alpha channel, you could not get bump or shine as well. My mistake, I guess...but it still reads the same to me. If you mean that the sides without an alpha can't have shine applied, then Marianne has the correct idea - open a jira and report the bug.

Mari Sorry, my mistake, the RC viewer crashed, when I logged in again a message showed up: "Your viewer crashed because a graphic card issue, settings are at minimum now" I have a Geforce 8600 GT 512MB.... I don't know if that assumptions is true...
