Allow others to use my surfboards?

Hi,

I bought a lovely piece of beachfront property and several surfboards, but no one else can use the surfboards because it says that they are not the owner. I tried setting permissions to share and allow anyone to move...but still not able to use them. How can I do this without having to give each of my friends their own surf board? I know that I have been on public beaches where I can use the surfboards...but I am still new and don't know how to make this work. I appreciate anyone's help or advice on this.

Do you use the surfboard by sitting on it? or by attaching it?

If it's by sitting, then the SL permissions aren't going to be relevant. There should be a notecard or other documentation with the surfboard telling you how to configure it. If not, find out how to get support from the place you bought the surfboard. Usually, they'll either have a group to join or the name of an avatar to IM for support.

If it's by attaching, then the object must be owned by the person wearing it. If the surfboard is no-transfer, there is nothing you can do to allow anyone else to attach it.

Where did you buy it? Because usually when you click on the surfboard it will give you an option to allow anyone to use.

Many vehicle scripts have llGetOwner() hard coded to decide if the sitting avatar can play. If that is the sort of script your boards have, you would need to remove that line (or maybe replace it with a llSameGroup() check so that complete strangers don't wander off with your toys) to undo that.

You use surfboard by sitting on it. Except that it changes word from sit to surf. I have purchased several from different stores and none of them can be used by anyone except me.

P.S. These are scripted surfboards with tricks and such

YOu may be able to deed the surfboards to group, then anyone in the group you designate can use them.

All the surfboard we make can be used by anyone, Group, or by owner only. You simply touch the surfboard and pick who you want to alow on it via a menu.

You can buy one at Primworks sim. in the hut along the shore.

I use the Surf Party from Wave Labs, it is fantastic.

Anyone can click on the surboard and go surfing, and another is rezzed immediately for the next user. Once you get off your board, or you hit land, the board is derezzed, so there are no stray surfboards all over the sim, for the owner to find each day.

Great system.
