Goosed! Another tiny noob question

When my av is just standing there, and I'm using the camera to look around, when I want to leave camera mode so I can have the av walk, I hit esc. Hitting esc causes her to jump like she's just been goosed and land pointed the other direction. Once again, I'm looking for ways to have my av NOT look like she's got serious psychoneurological problems. Am I doing something wrong?

Hmm - I don't do that, so maybe it is related to the Stand that I use. Are you using the default LL stand?

I'm using an Outrider AO. You think this is due to the AO? I'm not sure, but I thought I jumped like that when there was no AO. It's more of a big full-body jerk than a jump per se.

Three part answer!

1: AOs work by running certain animations when your avatar does certain things - they're basically just a script that loops around, checking what state your avatar is in then playing the right animation to match that. There's a list of the different animation states at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlGetAnimation, if you're interested.

B: If you cam around and are looking in a direction other than straight-ahead when you do the ESC thing, your avatar will turn to face the direction you were looking.

III: your AO is missing or not correctly displaying the "turning left" and "turning right" animations..

It's actually all just a guess but I bet I'm close..

I have checked, and you are correct, Sindy. My AO has no turning animations. Do you think that would help?

I have no actual turning animations in my AO - I always that was just a function of default LL behavior, though I suppose it could be a built in part of my Stands.

Dunno - you could try it.

If it's a standard AO, try putting in the regular stand animation as the turning ones.. You won't get a special 'turn' animation but you might not get goosed so often.

You can plop one of the more neutral stands from your existing set into the turning slots if you like, that can do the job. But the stock turns are pretty plain, not likely to look like much unless you are using one of the more "extreme" animation sets like the ones for tinies, flying, animals.

There can be some visual artifacts when you esc back to the regular camera, your mesh can switch from a lower to higher level of detail, and your attachments may fly back into position. So ask around, find out if others are seeing the same thing.

My most used is a freebie and was made by Keeiki Lemieux - owner of Animations Warehouse and creator of the Huddles dance hud. My other static pose is also a freebie and was made by Ulrika Zugzwang and you can find her animations at "Neualtenburg Chicken Hat".

My two animated stands came from ANIMAH, but that no longer exists. The creator is Myllie Writer and she now owns a place called PERSONA, which may or may not have animations.

I followed your suggestion and put a regular standing AO in as the turns. Still a big jump 'n' jerk when I hit esc out of camera mode.
