This is a bit too specific for most of you, but does anyone out there have experience with either MAIN ( http://www.main.nc.us/) or Charter in western North Carolina? I'm using AT&T/Bellsouth right now but would really like to switch to MAIN for moral reasons (and the fact my AT&T connection is barely faster than the dial-up I had in Maryland doesn't help). But MAIN is only available in wireless, and I've heard enough horror stories about wireless SL. It's so helpful when the support pages tell you SL won't work with "some" providers -- so much usable information there! Anyone out there using it now? Anyone? /me listens for an echo.

I dont use MAIN but I use hughes broadband sattelite and I live right next to the NC border in the mountains. Restricted Bandwidth and thresholds suck but the speed is comporable to cable when its not raining in the summer..or snowing in the winter. Other than that Ive run SL on it for over 3 years....oh and its not supported ~Lana Tomba

Thanks! I haven't heard of Hughes, so I'm guessing I'm not in their service area, but it's worth looking up to be sure. From: someone when its not raining in the summer..or snowing in the winter Isn't that always the problem? *g* I think ISPs should be required to include average weather conditions in all their marketing materials.

I can't vouch for Charter in your area, but here in Wisconsin it's pretty darn good. It's not the fastest available, but they almost never go offline and customer service is good. Been with them for 8 years and no real complaints.
