Right click on your Second Life client shortcut and add select properties

Add the switch -multiple to the end of the Target line

There is a video explaining it here http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Help:Running_multiple_instances_of_the_Second_Life_client

I have tried to do this on occasion and have loged but.... my pc ran so bad and I lagged so bad (turning everything down to lowest) it sure wasn't worth it.

what I do is run 2 viewers. It's easier than editing the target line and seems to run a bit better. But, I do have 4 gigs of RAM which most likely helps out quite a bit. Remember, SL, no matter what viewer you use, is a memory hog

You might consider a text client like Metabolt. If you don't need the ava to res it's graphical environment, this is a way to get multiple avas online from your machine with much lower overhead.

If you have a dual or quad core CPU, try assigning each viewer to its own CPU core through the Task Manager. That should help smooth things out.
