A fair bit of the time now when I turn off or restart one of the computers, an error message appears regarding NetscapeDispatchWnd.

I figured this would come from Flock or Firefox or the latest version of Netscape I installed for historical purposes or the Netscape 4.8 I reinstalled for nostalgia.

Upon looking that up in Google, to my surprise I find that there are a lot of links concerning NetscapeDispatchWnd and Second Life.

Apparently NetscapeDispatchWnd is connected with SL crashes, and I suspect might have something to do with the reports of SL crashing but not actually terminating, leading to multiple instances of SL visible in Task Manager or it's equivalent.

I'm not aware of having the multiple SL instances problem, but I now suspect the NetscapeDispatchWnd hanging at shutdown problem has to do with SL.

Anyone else getting this NetscapeDispatchWnd hanging at shutdown problem or other NetscapeDispatchWnd related errors?

Yes, and commented and voted for this Jira: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7885

Ironically I discovered it was SL preventing my computer from shutting down from googling for NetscapeDispatchWnd and finding the SL jira in the google results!

Add detection so that old avatars logging into a newly installed viewer do not see the First Use tips & tutorial window
After posting I saw your sig, if you don't delete your user settings, what is is called? The folder in documents and settings, then that won't happen! ;) I don't remember seeing that happen from just a viewer install, only when I also removed the settings and lost my preferences settings. (And I've installed Nicholaz's viewers and Cool Viewers too...)

If you are installing SL on a different computer, simply copy your settings from your regular one? :)

Hmm, I finally upgraded my 32 bit XP Pro to SP3 not long ago, I wonder if that is connected.

I knew I shouldn't have done that. There was no problem causing me to feel a need for SP3, I just got tired of seeing it on Windows update, and I don't like hiding the updates either, and I've seen a few reports of people claiming the upgrade to SP3 did them some good.

I've been in SL for almost five years, and I don't want to ever see the new user warnings, and I don't want to have to do anything in order to keep from seeing them. SL can check my start date when I log in and say, "Gee, been an SL user for 4 years and 11 months, therefore, I will not make them see the new user messages."

The settings file is not properly factored, it has personal preferences that one sets manually mixed in with stuff like where you were when you logged out, and things like the warning flags. These should be stored in separate files.

SL screws up enough in ways that one can fix by deleting the settings files to make it be an aggravation.

Plus I have SL regular, SL RC, SLim, SL preview, Cool Viewer, Nicholaz, Hippo viewer, and some others, I can't remember them all now. They all need to never show me the new user warnings again.

If my computers burn up and I install those viewers on new computers, I don't want to see those damned new user warning messages again.
