Go back to the 175 level nVidia driver and you'll be fine. Anything above that has problems with SL.

ETA: I'm using the 175.19 drivers with my 8600GT and have no problems at all with SL.

Also - I don't know if this will help you, but you might want to try the KirstenLee viewer on OpenLife:

http://www.openlifegrid.com/Downloads/ViewerDownloads/tabid/188/Default.aspx

I have found much less lag with the KirstenLee viewer than with the regulation SL viewer or the latest Release Candidate viewer...

latest drivers only work for fps games

unlike the frigging support says about "updating your drivers first", with SL, ALLWAYS downgrade as the client is a ....... work of miracles...

been using the 175.16 since it came out

word of advise, SAVE the driver your using to some partition or other hdd, incase you have to reinstall or format, you allways have the right driver on hands! (learned the hardway trying to remember wich driver worked with SL and reinstall a couple of times till getting it right  )

There are known avatar rendering issues with NVIDIA 177 and 178 drivers:
- http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7957 (Clothing skinning error on nVidia)
- http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9358 (Texture rendering problem Nvidia 178.13 release drivers)
- http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8261 (With some clothes, viewer renders buttocks and legs totally white)

Please add your comments/vote to whichever you feel most closely matches your issue.

The following workaround has been reported:
- Enable the Advanced Menu (Ctrl-Alt-D)
- Disable rendering of Palletized Textures (Ctrl-Alt-F7)
- Rebake (Ctrl-Alt-R)
