For some time that I made clothes, so now I decided to make some replicas of some RL clothes, like Chanel and so on... I was thinking on selling them on one of my malls, do you think that I should put the name "chanel" ou change it? After all most of SL-clothes are inspired on RL models

Change it.
Someone with more money than you has probably already read this and is drafting a "We're suing you pantless" letter as I speak. _____________________

Inspire by, yes. Exact copies, shouldn't be.
So, ix-nay on the Chanel. _____________________

Putting the name "Chanel" on the clothes would violate Chanel's trademark.
Beyond that, fashion designs are not protected by copyright. They may be in the near future, but currently, they are not. See, for example: http://www.copyright.gov/docs/regstat072706.html Using others' pictures (or others' textures) to create the clothes could violate copyright. Though copyright doesn't attach to fashion designs, it does attach to pictures (and textures are just a kind of digital picture). Even if you don't directly copy someone else's clothing texture in Second Life, it could possibily be a copyright infringement to create a clothing texture too similar to someone else's clothing texture. (The texture- a digital picture- can be protected by copyright even if the fashion design cannot.) That kind of thing always depends upon facts and circumstances. |

Besides, a lot of us avoid buying things with Real Life brands on them. You're being creative by making the clothes, be a little more creative and make yourself a nice name.
