Oh all right so I winged about this before but they haven't fixed it yet and Bay City's been selling like hot cakes so you'd think they'd be able to afford to sort it by now!! A practical demonstration of my (and everyone else's) problem can be experienced if you teleport to the Barcola side of the North Channel Bridge and walk/crawl/drive/fly/hop or even by golly dance across the bridge towards Molesworth. Clearly what we're talking about is a really really bad regional handover (I think that's what it's called) which as you cross into 'North Channel' hurls you into the void, never to return, or at least until you log out and back in again. As the Bay City is Second Life's big focus at the moment where some residents are paying considerably over the going rate for what are frankly miniscule plots, you would have thought that they would at least have ironed out the technical problems first. Oh..I'm supposed to ask a question aren't I..my favourite colour's yellow what's yours..and did you think about it as you were hurled into the void..? Your day's not complete if you haven't had at least one good rant!! Astrid

From: Astrid Schwade Oh..I'm supposed to ask a question aren't I..my favourite colour's yellow what's yours..and did you think about it as you were hurled into the void..? Green, purple, and pink. I usually think "Oh poo, I forgot about dat again." It *really* does need fixin. Even jes an invisiprim there for a couple meters, to shore it up. May I suggest filing a ticket, going to Michael Linden's office hours, tracking down a Mole, or otherwise grabbin' someone who can fix it? Mari

I had the same problem last night. I was flying from Miarame , following the road across the channel and Bang! I got a cross ban message and got thrown from my ship. I had to relog, tried again, and the same thing.

having seen the constructs at BC I'm almost glad I wasn't picked as a mole. I'd be ashamed to be lumped together with some of those. I guess the anonymous aspect helps foster shody work.

'Filing a Ticket' hee hee I have a moderately amusing tale about that. I went to 'Support' then to 'File a Ticket' where I was given (I think) lengthy instructions..all in German. I come from a little town on the west coast of Scotland, I've always sort of liked the name Astrid and as for Schwade it was one of twenty really crap names Linden Labs offered me (sadly I hadn't seen this web site at that time.. http://slnamewatch.com/). Though I have to admit that I do like my name now and wouldn't change it for the world (miniscule plot in Bay City..maybe, I'm open to offers) As we here in Germany would say Ich archiviere eine Karte und hoffnungsvoll können wir das ' erhalten; phantom' problem sortierteAstrid

My guess what's going on (warning: speculation! not fact!) is that the new bay city regions are at the phoenix colocation facility (or something like that) and the old Nova Albion stuff is back in SF or Dallas.
So... it may be a sticky thing to solve. One step on the grid thus representing a pretty good leap across a whole lotta mountains and deserts, rather than across the room. So now... what do you do. Do you simply convert one of the regions to a different colo facility? Yeah, but... that just moves the problem over some. Now there's even another border to deal with... so you convert those two, and those two... so you are gonna do either the whole city, or the whole mainland. Ouch! Personally I'm thinking: swap bay city colo slots for a coupla dozen totally independent old regions. 99% of which won't even know or care about the issue, and it will be pretty much invisible to them. Of course, I could be totally wrong. The way to check is run traceroutes on the region addy's. I leave that as an excercise for the reader.

Bay City is a gated community, and the undesirables who attempt to cross from Barcola to Molesworth are ejected, because in Bay City, they "don't cotton to those types round heah".

Sounds interesting. Perhaps we can line up some cars and have a daredevil jump his motorcycle between the sims.

I have driven a car down rt 66 at high speeds and hit that spot, it is a very wild ride as you go flying out of control, spinning too!
The having to reboot after isnt as fun.

I tried walking across last night, just out of curiosity. When I came to the sim border, I slowly sank through the pavement into the ocean, then crashed. I can see what you mean about it being a dangerous spot.... I was sort of disappointed that there wasn't any actual flinging, though.

I can see what you mean about it being a dangerous spot.... I was sort of disappointed that there wasn't any actual flinging, though. I regularly hit dat spot going from Barcola on my bicycle. I just end up in the water an have to bike my way back out (it led to havok for all the kids on bikes an stuff in the parade). Not too much to be done about it, 'less they put another prim underneath it or make some further adjustment to the land over there. Unless they moved North Channel and Molesworth to the same facility as Barcola, which even then might have some issues. Right now, dat is an awful big server jump. Anyone JIRA'd this? If I get the time, I can file a support ticket this weekend -- I'd suggest others affected (especially Bay City an Nova Albion land holders) do so as well. Mari

I just tried it, all that happens to me is I sink thru the pavement and take a dip in the sea....no rebooting involved.

As I started this thread I thought I'd better put in a support ticket on this one..I'll keep checking out the border from time to time and get back to you all as and when something changes. Astrid

Thanks to your thread title, every time I go over there now, I hear "Born to Run" in my head.
