No I don't think there is at this time .. but it would be great to do. the only why know of is to transfer everything you can to the new avie.. and possibly sale the items to the new avie .. those things that are not transfer or able to be sold will mostly not be saved.

While technically possible, Linden Lab has long denied such requests. The best you can do is create a second character, transfer any L$ and land you have to the new character with any no-transfer items remaining with the original character. The bother is that I know of three cases where they renamed avatars with trivial effort but that they won't even allow for paid renaming service. My guess is that they'd rather not be bothered which is a too common theme at LL.

To be fair, I can see why they deny the requests. There would be so many requests that it would take up too much time of someone who needs to be doing something more productive. It is easy enough to just create an alt when you wan to go off adventuring as someone else, it sucks to lose no trans items but it is what it is.....

Given the rather ridiculous need to choose a name before you have any knowledge at all of what SL is like, or what you will want to do or be, wouldn't it be nice - and it ought to be easy - to give everybody the chance to change their name just once.
