Yes I read the FAQ.
Basically - how do I bid?
It asks me for my maximum bid. I typed one in. But then it seemed to post that as current bid also.
But - the actual bid did not increase. So, I don't understand. How does the bidding process work?
Does it ask the maximum you will pay, and then bid automatically every so often?
I tried typing in a lower bid than my maximum, but higher than the current top bid and it said 'error.'
So someone please explain Land Auction bidding for dummies. Thanks.

Suppose the current bid is 2000L. You can place a maximum bid of 3000L, which will increase the current bid to the4 next step up (2010) and you will be winning. If someone then bids 2020, the system will automatically bid the next step for you, making the current bid 2030, and you will still be winning.
If someone bids 2500, the system will bid 2510 for you.
The system will keep bidding the next step for you when someone else bids higher than the current bid. It will stop bidding for you when the bid would take you over your maximum.

Yay!
Thanks, that's great. So all I need to do then is watch and see if the bid has passed my max.
Thanks again.
Any other auction tips?
Also why do some people just stand on the land? Floating around looking at auction parcels today, I saw this a few times. They're just standing there as if squatting on the land might claim it. I asked two people why but they didn't reply.

As long as you're winning, you don't need to do anything else unless your maximum is outbid by someone. The system tells you that you're winning. If the land really matters to you, you might want to change your maximum bid to higher than you really want to pay, in case someone bids at the last minute, which I believe isn't uncommon. I do that on the rare occasions when I bid in the auction, but I only bid on land that really does matter to me.
Incidentally, being poised to place a higher bid at the last second, if someone else does that, is unreliable. I missed a piece of land once by trying it that way. On that occasion I managed to buy the land from the buyer by offering her a quick 1000L profit. It's much safer to set the maximum significantly higher than you'd like - if the land really matters to you.
I've no idea why people (or bots) stand on the land.

I know if I am bidding I like to go have a good look at the parcel, and then I get tied up watching the auction page. Good luck at the auction!

That's an easy one actually. It's the best way to see who's interested in the parcel.

Just wanted to say thank you for the tips and also that I won the auction...barely! Someone began bidding up, within the last ten, fifteen minutes or so. Grr! Cost me $25 extra that did. Oh well. Just happy it ended well.
Party at mine!

Party at mine! What did you end up buying? Good luck! I suspect several of the "squatters" are there to put the land up for sale at a small profit if they win, while there is still interest. Not sure though.

Congrats, Clarissa!
It's annoying when someone keeps bidding up at the end, but it's not uncommon.
