Resources for host that limits shout to 60m?

All the host mics seem to be scripted for 10, 20 and 100. Anyone know of an in-between alternative?

Thanks

Those ranges are not set in scripting, they are hardwired directly into SecondLife. 10meters is the range of a whipser, 20meters is the range of normal chat, and 100meters is the range of a shout. There's no inbetween. The only alternatives would be to use IM, that lets you communicate at any range, and in private.

I could have sworn there was a Jira entry on this, but for the life of me I can't find it :(

llSay needs to have an arbitrary chat-distance parameter (up to a maximum distance to prevent abuse). Until we have something like that, your next-best option is to employ chat-repeaters.

We use chat repeaters at the Shelter to mildly extend the range of mics & ordinary chat, without using shouts.

Thank you!

Thank you for your responses. I was thinking that the distances might be hard wired in. The manager of the estate on which we have Club Your Destiny has recently instituted a "no shout" rule which is a challenge for us! I will look into chat repeaters!

There's http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1224 , which asks LL to add llParcelSay.

As a work around ...

You could set up prims to act like a PA system. One to be the mic. Then script them so that the mic repeated what the host says and relays that to the speakers which in turn repats the message in open chat.

The down side is that where the speaker range overlap your visitors will hear the same chat line multiple times.

[edit] oh, I see you already mentioned chat repeaters. My bad for not reading carefully.

Along those lines, I'd love to see an llEstateSay.. I could see it not working on the mainland, and being limited to channels other than zero, but it'd sure make things easier...

llRegionSay does not do the job. It ends at the region's borders and does not cover an entire estate.

For instance if I have scripted objects that were across 4 or 5 regions, on a private estate, and I wanted to have them all communicate with each other, I have to either use llEmail, or I can have chat relays that move around the estate carrying messages (prim carrier pidgeons), or I could bounce messages off an RL host with a combination of html and xml-rpc. All of these options have their own reasons for sucking, including unreliability, script delays, and so forth.

So if you are an estate manager, just use the "Send Message to Estate" from the Region/Estate menu :)

That still wouldn't be the same since scripts can't listen for estate messages.

Fire up a JIRA, Atashi. I'll vote for it.
