Hi gang....ok....being of a brave frame of mind I decided to try out opensim so I'd have a way to check my work before uploading to SL. I intend to use it as stand alone ONLY. I'm not interested in hosting....

So.....if anyone out there can help me thru some glitches....much appreciated! I've downloaded.....I have instructions (thank you Rock) but the first step....getting out the bin folder is proving to be impossible. I cannot put the bin folder anywhere without losing half the files in it. I can open it with-in the zipped download.....but cannot relocate it. So that is my first stumbling block. LOL :o Any ideas? When I try to relocate the bin folder....I get a windows error messege telling me there was an error copying the files.

There's only so much we can expect an LL-sponsored forum to tolerate, and personally I think resident-resident support of other Virtual Worlds is beyond what we can ask.

Try SLU's "Oher grids" forum? http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/other-grids-virtual-worlds/
.

I am not sure why you have this installation bug. Actually it should run smoothly. Must be the installer. I think this is the link to the refixed version.

LMAO well....I guess if you'd read my post thoroughly you would see that I am using it in order to ENHANCE SL by working on my creations and testing them there before bringing the completed textures into SL. (picture the Grinch explaining to CindyLu Who how he's taking the tree back to santa's workshop so he can fix it up THERE....and then bring it back HERE....) This, indeed, would pertain directly to SL, now wouldn't it.

Abrasive doesn't work on me......for all you folks with 'tude' going on. Find a better cause my friends....your energy is wasted muscling your way thru forums like this. You aint changing the world, lets face it. :p

What can I say....I'm in a mood today....

But in all seriousness....I spend a LOT of time in these forums AND in-wrold, helping folks when ever and how ever I can.....and often times it is for subjects not pertaining to SL. I have no problem helping another person if I can.....and I think proper decorum in forums like this is to be non-prejudice, most especially towards members who are devoted contributors to the over-all community. ;) Peace Out. :D

? sorry, didn't mean to offend. It's a good website to know about anyway, if you're using other platforms.

If you are testing creations etc, why not use beta grid? I do that anyway...
Hmm, can you DL objects you make in OS and upload it to SL?? Or are we just talking textures??

But, I have always found that the forums were rather helpful to other worlds issues...

Besides, it might get a hooterander to LL that we are all considering a change.

I got on to OS once and was not impressed as of yet, but have an account nonetheless if and when I decide to move..

Nika, you are obviously unaware of all the collaboration going on right now between SL and Opensim. Lindens and Opensim Core Developers have frequent meetings in both SL and on the OSGrid, and in irc channels as we work towards the Open Grid Protocol. I am involved in the Gridnauts projects, where we have been teleporting between the SL Beta Grid and the OSGrid.

Opensim is NOT another virtual world, it is a platform.

Um...so beta grid allows free uploads? I was always under the impression that the RC's and so forth operated the same as the normal viewer, in that it still costs to import files. I used to use Firstlook all the tme before windlight was made mainstream.

Anywho.....if that's the case...perhaps I don't need to comlicate my life with OS for now LOL. What's the best performing beta these days?

LL occasionally takes a snapshot of the real grid and implants that info to the beta grid. So whatever your inventory and Linden balance are at the time of that snapshot, that is what you will have in the beta grid. People can send you Lindens in the beta grid also if you happen to have been low on Lindens at the time of the snapshot. Uploading to the beta grid takes Lindens, but the change in balance does not reflect on your real balance on the main grid. Neither do inventory changes affect your main grid inventory.

You don't need a beta viewer any longer. Press control+shift+G. This will open a small drop-down window. Choose Aditi from this window and log in as normal. To get back to the main grid choose Agni.

The beta *grid* is a test version of the server setup. There, you have 5000 L$ to play with, regularly being reset. Your inventory is a snapshot of what it was at some point earlier on the main grid.

This has *nothing* to do with the RCs. You can log into either the beta or the main grid with both viewers.

Hit CTRL+SHIFT+G at the login screen, and you'll get a dropdown with grids. Aditi is the beta grid. Agni is the main grid you usually log in to.
