I just developed a large black triangle on the upper left leg of the skin I was wearing. Then I tried different skins and they all showed the triangle. It turned out to be the black shoes I was wearing. I took them off, and Lo! The triangle disappeared. Does this indicate poorly made shoes, or what?
Speaking of shoes, I searched on 'shoes' and spend half an hour in one enormous mall and never did find any shoes. Is there a standard way to find the particular department you want when you go to these malls? Am I missing some cute trick? (Well, yes, I've missed a lot of cute tricks in that other reality!)

Could be badly made shoes but it could also be an SL glitch or even an issue with your graphics card and it's compatibility with SL. If it only happens with those shoes, probably the shoes. In that case you could try different shoe bases with the prim bits to see if they work without the black triangle. Malls can be really hard to find stuff in unless they're well laid out and signposted. There's no standard trick to finding something in particular except perhaps just heading to a specialist store directly.

Just out of curiosity - why are you trying on new shoes naked...?

I'm guessing that the shoe layer needs to be adjusted. If you go into your appearance and look at the shoe layer you have to lower the shoe height or whatever it's called. System shoes, the non-prim ones, use a lower body texture template so unless the shoemaker completely removes the rest of the lower body template you will see some junk texture when you have the shoe height too high.
