Spook at end of my garden.

For the last few days there has often been a green dot showing at the end of my garden on the mini-map, just the other side of my hedge. I've walked down to try and find the 'being' that appears to be lurking but I can't find anyone. The dot, as opposed to an arrow, shows they must be at around ground level. I've tried talking too but no answer has come.

I'm wondering if it's some kind of bot concealed in an invisible av (although no name tag shows). But what would a bot be doing by my place, since there's no sensibly priced land for sale in the sim? Could it be a snooper bot, or a cambot watching me? Do such things exist? It is unlikely to be watching anyone else as the neighbouring land on that side is an uninhabited mess. I'm just curious to know what I'm seeing (or not seeing).

go into edit mode, zoom out top view while standing next to the dot and drag a select box the size of your screen, if he`s using an invisi prim, it will get selected

or just use a sensor wich is in most offensive/defensive tools

I have seen this several times, always at a sim edge, normally near a corner but not always. They disappear after a few days. I have searched high and low for the avatar producing these and only once, for a split second detected the top of a head just at the level of the ground but for some reason could not see it again. I believe these are just ghost avatars that have not completely logged out, probably when a client crashed trying to cross a sim. Stuck in limbo so to speak... Is your garden on a sim edge?

The spook is not close to a sim border and I did what was suggested above - went into edit mode and selected all objects but nothing showed. I tried to walk into the spook and passed through it with no effects. It does sometimes shimmer on the mini map, though.

Did you look under the land?

Or use/write an avie scanner script to get an exact position (then set it on the map for an easy visual aid ).

OMG! Conifer! That would certainly creep me out! It seems that SL is haunted in more ways than one! SL imitates and surpasses RL in odd unexplained phenomena!

Maybe it's something on the map in the sky? I've heard people fake green dots that way...

....oh wait, mini-map....that certainly wouldn't work, would it?

Did you look below the ground?

I had something very similar about a month ago. In my case, it was off the corner of my property right next to the sim border. Also, while panning the camera around keeping an eye on the dot in the minimap, I discovered that it was underground by about 20 meters (ballpark). I just ignored it and eventually it went away.

Is your build on an ancient Indian burial ground? If so, turn on your tv and place a small child in front of it - if all you get is static and the child disappears, please leave immediately. That movie scared the hell out of me, and I don't want anything bad to happen to you. Really. I mean it. Awful, awful things happen when you build developments in locations like that. I'm having a mild anxiety attack thinking about it.

Just don't bury any dead prim cats there, and you should be fine.

Gah!!! Oh Jeez! Pet cemetaries are the worst!! I'm going to wake up heaving for breath in a cold sweat tonight. CONIFER!! If you're still alive RUN. I mean it RUN for your life. If your build is anywhere near a prim pet cemetary you are doomed beyond all repair. If you hear weird music playing in the background, it may be too late.

On a serious note, I truly hate all of those movies. They give me nightmares. I swear, I need medication after I see them. Stephen King should be outlawed. I can't stop reading his books or seeing the movies, but every damn one of them does deep and lasting psychological harm to me. Why can't he write nice books about fields of wildflowers and friendly people who fall in love and live happily ever after? Why is it always demonic forces from other worlds animating half-rotted animal corpses or late model sedans?

Even more serious, I hated the part about the cat, as i love cats. I have several buried in my RL garden and it creeps me out.

I used to see "ghost lights" quite frequently when logging in to my home position in SL. As soon as I came in world and things would begin rezzing, there would a single large ethereal-looking particle that would be moving by in a straight line as if it just came from the nearby sim border, and would continue it's lonely journey until it passed out the side of the sim... There were no particle generators in the neighboring sim producing these either... spooky o_O

Hey Conifer, I've passed u a radar inworld so you can cruise around see if anyone turns up on it , I think it's 96m range, so hopefully you won't have to do too much legwork!

Well after a bit of scanning and spell casting and flying up and down, your ghost seemed to matterialize on the ground in front of me and slowly float up into the air.
My guess the avatar is bugged, it is currently at 250m up from the mini map dot, my scanner says i am 1m from the avatar while i am standing on the ground and out of range when floating beside them.

So nothing sinister is going on as far as i can tell, no invisible men spying on you and no dead bodies or unmarked graves.

PS; due to the "no naming names" rule here, I sent you an IM with the avatars name, in case you wanted to know.

I've seen fake green dots, the club in the next sim appeared to have them but they were totally unconvincing. This green dot shows on the mini-map. What is spooky is that it is right by one of those big signs with bible quotes on it and I have put a corresponding atheist protest sign on my land next to it!

Problem now sorted. Thanks Blinky and Taylor for help. I contacted the lost soul, who happened to be online but with login problems. They TP'd to my sim, which they'd never been to before, and the green dot disappeared. I have seen other avatars loitering in the same place - like lost avs in suspended animation get transported there.

It could be a ghosted av also someone whos not totally loged..or lagged out
if you have a radar does any names show up?
