If you intend to use them for a blog, you'd be better off using the download to hard drive option when you take them. But, yes, you can download them after the fact...they're just smaller and it takes more steps. First, make sure the image is full perms, open it in your SL viewer, then go to File>Save Texture As...
I believe they download as a .tga file, which you can open with something like The Gimp and then save in a more usable format such as .jpg. _____________________

more usable format such as .jpg. Small point of clarification, I wouldn't call it JPEG "more usable" than TGA. It's just better suited for the Web is all. TGA has been one of the most commonly used formats in the 3D, film, and video production industries for decades. It's extremely "usable". JPEG is of course a good choice for use on the Web, due to its small file size, but that doesn't make it any more or less inherently usable than anything else. Each format has its place. _____________________

She said she wanted it for a website...jpg is more usable in that situation.

TGA can be converted to JPG easily. However saving directly to hard drive does provide for better quality, both because you can enable the 'High Resolution' to hard drive option, and because it doesn't go through the asset server which saves the photo with a lot of 'lossyness'.

OK, dumb question here - I thought you *had* to save snapshots to the hard drive and then upload them. Is there a way of taking a snapshot and having it appear as a texture without saving to hard disk and uploading?

Damien, when you take the shot, just select upload instead of 'save to hard drive' that will send it directly into your snapshots folder. It does cost 10L per shot tho....so if you prefer editing your pics first, it's best to save to hard drive first.

Well now I tried it and it works perfectly for most of my snapshots. However I have some pictures in my texture folder which the system cannot "save texture", why are there 2 different kinds of pictures? Any ideas? Violet

Hmmm...images taken and saved immediately in-world save as snapshots into said folder. Uploaded images from your hard drive will save as textures. Here and there I've seen an in-world snapshot save as a texture and I'm not sure why that is..... But as far as I knew....you can download 'textures' to your hard drive as long as they have full permissions.
But.... files saved as 'snapshots' I have never even tried that with cause I always save things to my hard drive first. Interestingly....last night I did a series of pics in the same way that always do....same size as I always use..... and I noticed this morning when I opened them to do some editing.....they were oddly fuzzy....as compared to the beautiful clear images I usually get. I'm wondering how that happend, since when I took the shots, they looked perfectly clear. I've never lost clarity before with saving files to hard drive....so I'm wondering what setting got tweeked? |

Violet Right-click on one of these in inventory, then select 'Properties' and make sure all the permissions boxes are checked. _____________________

Aha, it seems these are the pictures friends gave me, they probably are not copyable? It depends on how they set the permissions. The images need to be full perms (copy/mod/transferable) to download. _____________________

When you make a snapshot display, that should put a copy of it into your cache, shouldn't it?
Could you clear your cache, display the snapshops you want, and find the files in the cache? _____________________
