Hey all,
I recently bought a 1024 plot of land in one of the new sims that was created and I was thinking of investing the a 512 plot that was next door to possibly make into a rental locale for newer avs just looking for a place to metaphorically crash.
What im wondering is if I am understanding the land prices page right. If I buy that 512, will I be just adding another 5 dollers onto my monthly tier? Again, kind of a newbie question, but ive only recently ventured into owning my own land and dont want to end up costing myself a lot more money then I can pay lol
Thanks in advance!

your first 512 of land doesn't incur a tier cost
so figure in your total land you want to own, then subtract 512 from it and that would be the tier you would have to pay
you already own 1024, if you buy 512 more your fees will increase to 8 dollar a month

Go to the main SecondLife website, go to "My Account", then go to "Land Use Fees". There is a handy fee estimation calculator there that you can use to check the fees before you buy. Underneath that is a listing of the LL tier fees.

From: Alex Moraff If I buy that 512, will I be just adding another 5 dollers onto my monthly tier? No, you'd add on an extra $3, taking you to $8/month. http://secondlife.com/whatis/landpricing.phpYou currently have 1024m² and you get 512m² as part of being premium so you fit into the 512m² bracket currently at $5/month (plus premium account fees). If you bought the exta 512m², you'd have 1536m² total or 1024m² if you take the "premium bonus" into account which would put you into the 1024m² bracket at $8/month. If you added another 512m², you'd have 2048m² total or 1536m² for which will you'll be billed which puts you into the 2048m² bracket at $15/month since there is no 1536m² tier level and you're always billed at the level that's equal or higher to what you currently own. Hope that cleared it up a bit . You could just use https://secondlife.com/account/landfees.php which will figure things out for you and just give you the price, but it's better if it actually make sense to you as well. Don't bother with "Update Tier" that's listed at that page, it happens automatically. Finally, look at the day of the month that you renew. For instance if you get billed every 4th and you buy the land today you'll already pay $8 for the current month even though you only owned the extra 512m² for a day, where if you waited two days you'd pay $5 for the current month and $8 next month. In this case it's only $3 so it doesn't matter much, but when you're on a higher tier level it can make a big difference to plan when you add extra land (or when to get rid of it for that matter).

The easiest way to make the calculation is add 512 sqm onto the Tier that you are paying, so
512sqm = 5U$ maximum landholdings 1024sqm 1024 = 8U$ maximum landholdings 1536sqm 2048 = 15U$ maximum landholdings 2560sqm 4096sqm = 25U$ maximum landholdings 4612sqm
and so on.
I do not know why LL can't add a maximum allowed holdings on the fees page as people get confused over the free allocation of 512sqm before tier charges are incurred.
Edit, I am not mentioning groups and the 10% bonus as this was not the OP's question and may only confuse the issue.

Kitty, just to add, it is best advised to contact the seller and mention that your intentions are to buy the land and ask if they will reserve it for you until such time, most are fairly understanding and will do this, or you could face the risk of someone else buying it while you wait for your next tier date.

Land Holdings Allowed holdings: 1,536 square meters Current holdings: 1024 square meters Available for purchase: 0 square meters Peak square meter usage: 1,536 square meters
So if im getting this right (Forgive me if im not, its been a loooong day) I can buy an additional 512 of land and not incur any tier increases. Is that it? Why then does it say I have 0 available for purchase? Im really beginning to wonder why I bothered to buy land to begin with lol
NOTE: When I said rentals up top I just meant for newer avs, not free. I plan on have some small fee.

From: Cristalle Karami Do you have tier donated to a group? Pretty sure I did. I remember opening the window and donating it to my group (the one that the land is listed to) Now whether or not it actually took is a different story. Either way I cant check right now as I am at work =(

From: Cristalle Karami Do you have tier donated to a group? Cristalle its nothing to do with that he is only paying for 512sqm of tier and has read my example wrong. Alex, to buy the land next door will mean going to the next tier level and pay 8U$ Dollars a month in tier (excluding your membership). You are currently paying tier for 5U$ Dollars per month, this entiles you to maximum landholdings of 1024sqm, because you have as a premium member 512sqm free and 5U$ dollars is tier for 512sqm. To buy the land next door would mean your land holdings are 1536sqm. That will be 1024sqm you pay tier for and 512sqm which is free. Does that help you?

Larrie, he cannot achieve the above without having donated 512 to a group. Otherwise, he'd have 512 available. Current holdings is the amount he holds personally in his name, not deeded to a group. For example, this is mine: Allowed holdings: 98,816 square meters Current holdings: 0 square meters Available for purchase: 0 square meters Peak square meter usage: 98,816 square meters Mine is this way because I have 100% of my land deeded.

You are currently paying tier for 5U$ Dollars per month, this entiles you to maximum landholdings of 1024sqm, because you have as a premium member 512sqm free and 5U$ dollars is tier for 512sqm. That's not right though unless he has an odd account that allows him 1024m² of "free" tier. His peak is currently 1536m² which means that he is *already* at the $8/month tier level. If he buys another 512m² he'll end up at the 2048m² level paying $15/month with 1536m² land owned in his name, 512m² donated to a group and 512m² of unused tier. --- Alex: if you have tier donated to a group but you're not using it then you need to log on, and open the group you donated tier to (if you forgot, the link in my previous post will tell which group) and go to the "Land & L$" tab. Then under contribution zero out the number and OK. Then wait for the site to catch up and show " Available for purchase: 512 square meters". Unless you have an extraordinary account type (you seem too "young" to have one of those though), you're already at $8/month. Buying another 512m² the way things are now will push you to $15/month for a total of 2560m² of which you'll be using 2048m².

Perhaps if Alex was to clarify whether he is paying 5 or 8 dollars month then that would help answer his question.

"If I buy that 512, will I be just adding another 5 dollers onto my monthly tier?" - This seems to indicate that he's paying $5 a month, however, the land holdings he posted indicates he's paying $8 a month. I'm guessing $8 is the case and that he can either undonate the 512 from the group and use the tier for the new land or just buy the new land which will put him in the $15 price range. --Hugsy

Ok according to that link my 512 was donated to my group, and i am paying 8$US a month tier wise. What I was basing the extra 5$ on was the table that is shown here: http://secondlife.com/whatis/landpricing.phpThat says 5$US for a 512, so I just took it as that would be added to my tier of 8$US. Thats what I misunderstood im thinking.

Does that mean you figured everything out now then? Or you're still unclear about some things?

To get there, click the Support link at the top of the page right under the banner, login, and then search for Land FAQ. It will be the first result. A relevant question is #6 which contains a better table describing the fees. It factors in the "free" 512 sq. m. that you get. Keep in mind that the bill is calculated based on the total amount of land owned. So if you're maxed out at the 1/2 sim level (33,280 sq. m.) paying US$125 per mo. and buy just 16 sq. m. more, you'll move into the full sim level (66,048 sq. m.) and go all the way up to paying US$195 per mo. --Hugsy

I assumed he was just thinking of adding an additional 512sqm for 5U$. Now that he does have his 512 in a group it makes sense so sorry Cristalle. Have you managed to sort this out Alex.
