Problem with Alt :

I just created an Alt.

When I try to login it says my account has been "Disabled" and I should visit secondlife.com to "Renew my Membership".

What on earth is that all about?

It's 'supposed' to be a basic "Free" account, so I haven't a clue why I'm getting this message. There's absolutely no reason it should be disabled - I haven't even used it yet. Does anyone know what the problem is here?

Usually that happens when you trigger some sort of alarm at LL headquarters. For example, I had the Cartel Trust Account Alt disabled (at an extremely inconvenient moment, no less) when everyone here was giving him all sorts of cash to buy the land for the hangout. The sudden influx of a great deal of money to a new, unverified alt triggered the money laundering alarm and he was auto disabled. I filed a ticket and spent a while on the phone with LL, explaining what the situation was and panicking, since I was personally responsible for the funds in the account. They reset him, and all was well.

So, the deal may be that your alt triggered something suspicious, no matter how innocent it was. Try calling LL and filing a ticket. Good luck!

Immediately go to the support page (even if you're not premium), it might be a weird mistake with credit cards or somesuch....fraud prevention, maybe? if you gave any kind of payment info. Even if not, try support, from the "your account" page.

A friend recently had an issue making her first account that had this same message. Turns out, we think, she hit a skip this step button too many times which caused some sort of hiccup to SL. She was able to send them a message through the support portal (be sure to make every setting right, that it is a BASIC account question etc) and she got an email in 15 minutes stating all was fixed. Shocking how fast it was.

Check your email. You may need to activate it.

Thanks all.

Well, my main account is ok (this one) and there's nothing suspicious ever gone on with it - so I can't imagine why I'd trigger anything.

As for the signup; first there was 'no' confirmation email. So, I used the 'forgot password?' option on secondlife.com, and that actually triggered a password reset. So, again I tried to log in - but still the same problem.

When I signed-up for the Alt, I used a different email address (one I had setup at hotmail to reflect the name of the new alt).

That might be it-SL doesn't like Hotmail, unfortunately. I remember it actually said so somewhere...i just can't remember where....

That's what I was wondering, but it's getting the password reset emails so it should be ok really.

I think there was something about flagging Hotmail accounts? You should really try support.

Yes, yes, support! They are fast on this one! My friends account was a hotmail account too, maybe that was it. She never even got to log in until they fixed it. Did you send money or items to the alt before she had ever logged in? That happened too...wonder what exactly the triggers are.

Nah, I didn't send a thing to the alt, not a thing!

Well, I've just submitted a ticket under my main account. I just hope it doesn't take weeks or something. Hopefully they'll be as quick as with you guys.

This happened to me when I created an alt last month, definitely go the support ticket route, they responded pretty quickly. Often wondered what it was that triggered the hold, now I'm thinking it may have been the particular email I used.

Thanks for the tip :)

I got an email from Linden Labs today, telling me the issue has been resolved. Unfortunately, they didn't say what caused it - or I'd have passed it on to you guys.

The mystery continues...

When I created my alt, I tried using my hotmail account (the same one I had for the main) and it wouldn't let me. Kept saying it was in use. Fine and dandy, I traded it off to another email account and then swapped my main to the other email a bit later.

So, yeah, hotmail does cause problems and it said it right on the email page. I obviously didn't read it, because it wasn't blinking in neon pink and green ;)
