Copying an object within Inventory

This is a quick query as I'm dashing off to work and I thought I'd drop it in before I go.

I've built a large building and taken it to my inventory (the build is unlinked - too many components and too far apart). The build shows in my inventory as 'non copyable, modifiable or transferable'. I do however want to make a copy within my inventory just in case I screw up while rezzing it at some point. Anyone know how I can do this without having to change the properties of every component within the build. I did ensure the last component that was highlighted prior to 'taking' was copyable, but the complete taken build is still showing 'non copyable'.

Or is there a easy way to change the properties of every component within the build all in one go ?

Thanks :D

If you've used textures or scripts that are no mod/no copy then it will show as no mod/no copy.

If you are the creator of every piece in it, then I think you can:
1) right click the final object and change the permissions
or
2) rez it, edit it and change the permissions

However, if you did not create any single piece (including scripts/textures/etc) and that piece is No Copy, then there is no way for you to take a copy of the final object.

I too have had trouble with the item showing as no copy or no mod when I intend the whole thing to be copyable or mod. Tracking down which prim or script that is causing it can be frustrating. It shouldn't keep you from copying if you made all the prims though.

If you made every prim in the build, when you drag it out of your inventory, this should be a copy and the "original" should stay in your inventory. This can drive me crazy while building because if I want to make a tiny change and I don't rename the root prim I can't tell which one has changed when I take it back into inventory. I wish there were a save system as in other software rather than all this dragging and taking. That seems more intuitive to me.

Thanks for your responses folks :D, I've had a good look at the build and..

it's not a script coz there aren't any,

I rezzed a cube, textured it in the build tex, then took it to inventory and it showed up as having no restrictions, so it's not the texture.

I did an inspection of the build component list and hey presto found two objects by other creators, a singing bird cage (which I'd forgotten to remove), and the tail section of a WW2 Spitfire fighter aircraft (so..haven't you tried unlinking vehicles in mid flight..mega fun you should try it!!) which had somehow embedded itself in the building. So both offending objects removed, "problem solved" you cry..nooo!!..problem exactly the same, no copy, no modify and no transfer. :(

Thud thud head on key board time.

Fortunately this was never a building I intended to sell and the one and only copy does seem to rezz without any problems (of course just being in the inventory is a risk in itself, but I'll just have to hold my breath on that one).

Thanks again folks..

Any sculpties in the build? The sculpty texture might be what's causing it.

Nope no sculpties, nothing but good ole basic prims.

There's definitely an inventory item in one of the prims if you can modify it when it's rezzed but if it says "no modify" in inventory. If the linkset itself was no modify, you wouldn't be able to unlink anything.

Depending on the amount of prims, turn on debug permission, unlink all of it and look at the base and folded permissions prim by prim (base and folded should both be VMCT, if base is different then you need to replace that prim, if folded is different there's something in that prim's inventory with restricted permissions).

Had you ever applied a no-copy texture to a prim then retextured that prim? If so the no-copy texture will go to the prim inventory (I think it still works that way).

Anyone like to corroborate or tell me I'm full of it? :-D

I think the answer to that is no...probably..I haven't re-textures anything..just applied a basic tex to a basic prim

Okay folks I'm gonna leave it at that..it seems easy enough to rezz it from my inventory and I'll trust LL not to lose it. Thanks for all your advice and suggestions.

Astrid..:)
