FLASH Based video doesn't work

Hey all,

I have a friend of mine on SL who is not able to see any FLASH delivered video (the video play button never becomes available). MPG, MP4 and MOV videos work great so they are able to watch movies, but any web video from sources such as YouTube don't work. We've confirmed that this is not parcel or Sim specific and that it is affecting her regardless of the TV being used (Damani, @Home, NAT, etc.).

I've logged in using their accounts and it does work for me on my computer so obviously we've been able to determine that the problem is local to their machine. We've compared SL preferences and have updated their Flash installation to the latest version but this still isn't working.

Has anyone seen this before, and if so could you point me in the right direction to fix this.

Thank you all so much in advance for your assistance!

We've been using Emerald. I was going to have them try this later today with the LL client and see if it behaves any differently.

Should be the same code persay..

You said you had them update the latest flash etc what about video card drivers are those all update to date it's hard to diagnose a issue when you can't replicate it your self in world

As far as I know, you've never been able to play Flash videos in SL; that format isn't supported. You have to convert them to something QuickTime-compatible and some tools and workrounds for doing this (particularly the one originally recommended by Torley in his original tutorial) have proved not to particularly reliable.

See http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Help:Streaming_Audio?#Play_YouTube_videos

ETA Torley's original method took advantage of YouTube introducing the facility to convert their flash-based videos to .mp4 on the YouTube site but YouTube have since pretty much broken this, at least as far as SL is concerned.

Several of the higher end TVs allow for you to play a Flash Media stream. Damani, and NAT in particular. As I mentioned before this does work for me on my computer, and is something that used to work for them as well but for some reason doesn't now. As far as the videos are concerned, they are Youtube ones that do play for me and not for her, so I don't think we're dealing with an SL conversion or compatibility issue.

Lord I hate trouble shooting from 400 miles away. :s

LLMedia once released will also allow you to interact with flash media as well as click links and such on web pages.

The 1.24 API version of LL's client allows for multiple audio and video formats, including flash, web, etc.
