Recent survey a scam?

Recently there was a survey posted here (>_> that was actually pretty decent, so a lot of people filled it out.

Today I recieved an email, pasted farther down.
If you got this I would not respond to it. My name was clearly correct, and most likely they are doing something fishy.

We tried to pay L$150 for your participation in a survey in Feb,
however, your surname and first name is incorrect. Would you please send
us your surname and first name again? If we cannot receive the
information before 15 March (Sunday), then we cannot process your
payment.

I got my 150 lindens from Hariharan Engineer yesterday! If they already got your email and your avatar name how are they gonna scam you if you answer back and say yes that is me wanna try again?

Once you give them your true avatar name they will take your avatar's soul and give it's blood to a vampire.

Dante, I received the same email tonight. I forgot that I had temporarily set my profile to not show in search so I went in world and changed that. I'm thinking that was what the problem was in my case.

That's most likely the case, the same thing happened to my friend a while back. The bots use search obviously to find the people they pay out, but if you don't show up in search or the database is busted, you'll get an e-mail like that.

Well I was not worried about anything. I just like to post in forums any chance I get honestly lol.


But if the bots use web based search thats a awfully noobish mistake. they should use old style AV picker search. Then the "show in search" option is ignored.

I got that email showing my name 'back to front' I assume I made a little faux pas...

I was at work, on the pole, when I got a payment notice for L$150 from a Hariharan Engineer. I scanned around the club several times trying to figure out who the heck tipped me, and there was no such person around! Then I remembered the survey. So, yes, he did pay as promised. I'm not sure what mechanism he was using to make the payments, but if you got an email stating you could not be paid, it was likely either due to an SL glitch or something you set that made yourself invisible somehow. Anyways, there's no reason to believe the email isn't legitimate in this case.

There must be a database glitch...some people are showing up in search, some are not, including me. My profile is search enabled, so I attempted to contact the person you have mentioned directly inworld. No luck getting payed yet though.

I got my L$150 while dancing at a club. I thought someone accidentally clicked on me while trying to tip the DJ so I immediately put it in the DJ's jar. It's a good thing that I was enjoying his gig.
