All my pants have a gray bottom. It's like something else attaches when I put any kind of pants on. When I take off all clothes my bottom half is completely gray. Have chanded skin, detached all. Has anyone else heard of this and now what I can do to correct? Thanks

Asset server problem. Sounds like your textures arene't loading. Try rebaking. press ctrl-alt-D to get the admin menu and then press ctrl-alt-R to rebake. It's also under advanced->character->rebake textures. You might want to go to an empty sim so that your client isn't trying to download a bunch of textures as well.

Might also be a problem with the newer Nvidia graphics drivers.
If you're running a Nvidia graphics card, go into the Advanced menu (Ctrl - alt - D, if you don't have it enabled already)
Go to Rendering - Features and disable Palletized Textures. Then do Ctrl - Alt - R (Rebake textures). This needs to be done every time you log in...
(According to release notes, this will be fixed in the next SL viewer release!)

Advanced menu *where* please? SL or Nvidia? I can't find it in SL (checked prefs) and don't know how to in Nvidia.

I don't want to monkey with my comp and have it splode or something, even if it spat out large gold coins. ;p

Push Ctrl-Alt-D at the same time on the keyboard. That will activate the Advanced menu on the top of the SL screen. Also, if that doesn't work, try Ctrl-Alt-Shift-D... that's the only way it opens for me.

As Jupiter says, it's in SL. No need to tamper with Nvidia settings or any other settings on your computer.
The only thing my suggestion will do is disable palletized textures in SL for your current login session. If it doesn't help, just enable them again. Or just leave it and they will be enabled automatically next time you log in.
Nothing will explode :-)

Thanks. I tried the disable palletized textures and then rebake, but it made no difference. Strange though, I fonud a pair of white pants where this does not happen. Go figure, every other pair of pants makes me look I'm wearing gray pajamas with deet and everyone else can see the grat at the bottom of the pants, not just me.. And yes I do have a Nvidia 8600 and come to think of it I just updated the drivers. Hmm.........

How, exactly, does one fiddle with the palletized textures. As you can tell, I am up on all of the technical jargon. =)

Clarissa, here is a step-by-step instruction:

1. In SL, make sure that the Advanced Menu is enabled (press Ctrl - Alt - D)

2. Go to menu Advanced - Rendering - Features

3. Select "Palletized textures". This will disable palletized textures.

4. Rebake textures (Press Ctrl - Alt - R). This causes all textures on your avatar to be reloaded in your viewer.

This helps with problems I have with certain clothes that get messed up on computers with the newer Nvidia graphics drivers.

Unfortunately, it has to be done at every login, since palletized textures are enabled by default when you start the SL viewer.
It looks like this problem will be addressed by the next SL viewer release, though!
