Twice in one week I joined a new group. One group with my main and another one with my alt. I failed to carefully look over group information, prematurely clicking the join button and bam! They both got me for $150L each. Like so many others who joined the same I'm sure. So um if you're new, be careful when you join a new group. I'm just saying...don't do what I did! The one I joined with my main last week has yet to post a single class (tutorials).

Yes, I think LL should change this, for example when you own a script that takes money from you a big 'orangish' sign appears asking if you want it to take money from you or not.
When you join a group that doesn't happens, and owner can put any amount imagine clicking by accident on a 30.000L one!. |

Yeah I saw that just a little too late
( It was actually pretty easy to miss and a common mistake I'm sure. Just thought any newbies who happened across that thread might be forewarned and like Kahiro says, OMG it could have been worse!Racal: Looking at your past post, it is decidly so that you are indeed a no count troll. I think it's useful to bring this up. Many people - not necessarily new people - may benefit from reading about it.

i would be more concerned about groups that ask you to join but don't tell you there will be a fee once you click yes. those are the ones that tick me off. or the ones that don't tell you there is a group liability(?) fee until you notice missin lindens in your balance.

Racal: Looking at your past post, it is decidly so that you are indeed a no count troll. Pfft...go on wit your bad self. *mute* I didn't see that as bait (or trolling) but, instead, I saw it for what it was....a fact. When joining a group it does say the cost, if any, for joining. Now if anyone blindly accepts a group invitation without, at least, reading what the group is about and whether or not there is charge attached to it, then I don't have much sympathy at all. Especially, when those invitations come without prior notification or you asking for the invite. Your concern for newbies being caught up in the same situation is nice. The way to "fight' that problem is simply read what the terms are before you accept the invitation. No one was baiting you.......perhaps a little blunt but what they said was true. |

It was not mentioned - neither time in what the group was about. It was a mistake that I made twice..swearing to myself that it wouldn't happen again after the first time, but it did. That's my stupid. I can guarantee that it won't happen a third time. Racal was rude and condescending....AND looking at his/her previous post, I see this is a nasty habit.
I appreciate nice people. Thank you for your responses nice people._____________________

I absolutely never accept a group invite unless I know the person and have already agreed to join. As a rule...joining groups really only brings about a bunch of notices popping up and group chats you may not necessarily be interested in.
I don't mind the occasional notice about a sale or an event..... or group chat that is alerting to something spacific that the entire group should be privy to......but both of these things get abused more often than not and I have exited a LOT of groups for that reason. It just gets annoying. As for the pay feature..... I think it's pretty clearly stated in the group info if there's a fee.....and it doesn't it give a blue box confirming you're paying X amount to join, that you have to click 'ok' on? I don't know....I think I maybe only joined a pay group once. More often then not.....as a mentor......a lot of the questions or complaints I get from folks stem from the fact that they just don't really 'read' things. I also think.....as a new person in SL.....you aren't necessarily assuming anyone is gonna do anything deceiptful or harmful to you......you click blindly cause ya just wanna know what everything does. Child like wonder, if you will. I can't fault anyone for that........but a lot of what happens to people is really just a result of not paying attention to what is right in front of us on our screens. (disclaimer.... I am not dissing anyone...if my fiance ever got in SL...he would be notorious I'm sure...he is so A.D.D. it's not even funny.... he'd be the click before you read type....it's a relief actually that he's not interested cause I'd be putting out fires left & right lol) |

I really don't see anywhere in your post that you were looking for sympathy or blaming anyone - you were simply giving a heads-up. So saying 'tough', or 'lol' is way off base. I know I've stopped, right at the last second before pressing Join. It happens a lot more I'm sure, or else these fake groups wouldn't exist. |

I don't know....I think I maybe only joined a pay group once. Nope, after clicking th join button, I got a blue popup that said "you have paid so and so $150L to join the group" There was no do you agree button or click this to accept. Just you have paid. Afterwards I did notice the check mark in the box with an amount in it, but it was too late. That part was easy to miss. There was nothing in the about group that made any reference whatsoever about paying to join..i.e. the blurb. _____________________

I know I've joined groups without checking the fee amount -- just haven't thought about it because it's so uncommon to see a group that charges a fee. All groups I've joined have been free. So far. |

Now, what irks me isn't the pay groups. It's the spam pay groups, where you get sent a invite to join a group that requires the entry fee. Those are misleading as all heck, especially for the new users.
I have one rule about groups that seems to hold up very well for me: Never join a group that you didn't research or search for beforehand. _____________________
