I finally broke down and bought a 512m2 parcel over the weekend in a quiet sim with good Total Frame Time. Most of the sim had a decent-looking city on it. I had noticed there didn't seem to be much going on, and the few store fronts I saw were empty. I didn't think too much about it, though, until last night when I tp'd to my plot and found the whole city gone! My new neighbor for the moment is Governor Linden ("Maintenance" group). It's 28,944m and has an auction number, but has not shown up on the auction page yet. I'm really nervous about what is going to show up there next.
I guess I'd better download Windlight and see if I get some photos of the ocean while I can still see it. How long does it usually take for property to be redeveloped in this type of situation?

It really doesn't pay to worry about things you can't control. Hoping for the best is just as wasteful use of time and resouces.
Doing something about it like shopping for a more stable area would be of more value.

IMHO "CX" Well I don't think hoping for the best is a total waste of time. It feels better than worrying and in fact you might get great new neighbors who will make your neighborhood better than ever. Then any time you spent looking for a new place would turn out to have been wasted. Must admit my experience is limited and I have always been extremely luck - but that does show it can happen.

I would take a wait and see approach, as the person above said it may turn out to be just as good or better then before. Will never know if you bail out of fear now. On a side note could someone explain to a SL n00b like myself what exactly happened? The person abandoned his land?

IMHO "CX" What is a more stable area, though? There was a city. It suddenly disappeared. I would not expect a giant build to suddenly revert to LL.

You cannot "sell" your land back to the Lindens. The person may never have hit the "Abandon Land" button -- they may simply have failed to pay their tier or premium fees. .

Siddhartha Guatama Buddha (563 - 483 BC) Don't dwell in the past? Geesh Raymond! The guy's been dead for almost 1500 years!! Stop dwelling in the past! That reminds me - I'm going to make a character named Siddhartha Guantanamo Buddha. He's a fat, bald military corrections officer in Cuba, and spends all his time telling suspected terrorists how to achieve inner peace. His rap name is Gitmo Bu

So when someone abandons land it auto goes back to the lindens and auto into a auction? How do they calculate a price for the auction since it seems to fluctuate a fair amount almost weekly? Smart way to create a money sink by LL I have to admit...

I do think your fat bald military corrections officer idea is very entertaining, though.

Smart way to create a money sink by LL I have to admit... They don't calculate a price. Auctions are self-regulating. The market determines the final price.

From: Strauss Ulderport So, in theory, on a fluke if only one person happens to bid on a specific plot of land for 1L they get it for that price, no mininum? There's a starting price on each auction which (without checking and doing the maths) I think is L$4/m2. After that, it's up to the market. From: Cunundrum Alcott You paid $1L/sm for mainland? *caughbullshitcaugh* So did I the other day - but direct to LL. I bought land surrounding (on 3 sides) an abandoned/Gov Linden 16m2; asked nicely via Support Ticket, and they sold it to me for L$16. So it's not a myth. (I should also say that I think when I bought an abandoned 16 the same way some months ago, IIRC I was charged L$4/m2, but, hey, L$64 for 16... *shrugs*) .

Lunette, Anything could happen here, but at least these days it's less likely to turn into ad farm hell. Worst case, if something really awful shows up, just put your land up for sale for what you paid for it, or higher. The new owners will probably want it. The nice thing about only having a 512 is that you're pretty "liquid." There are thousands of 512s out there and you surely won't lose much in the transition if you have to sell a little lower.
