i am the owner of a group that owns land. one of the group members has lost an multi-prim object.
surprisingly, we cannot find it.
by highlighting that avi's name in the ABOUT LAND | OBJECTS tab, we can see his objects .. except for the object in question. i know the object is somewhere on the land. his prim count in the tab greatly exceeds the half dozen items we CAN see.
the line in that tab just above the list of avi's and prim counts reads OBJECT OWNERS and is followed by two buttons labeled REFRESH LIST and RETURN OBJECTS.
i understand the function of the REFRESH LIST button. could someone explain the RETURN OBJECTS button? could i use this to return all the objects of a particular avi? it sounds like a dangerous function. the last thing i'd want to do is to return MY over 3,000 prims on this land.
thanks in advance.

That's exactly its function, it does have a confirmation dialog. Still wise to keep a wide mousie-berth about it.

before you do that, do ctrl-alt-shft-5 and see if it accidentally got buried below ground.

Also check the expected size. I was putting out lanterns earlier this evening and accidentally pulled out a multipack of tiny prims I use for fast building. It took me forever to find them even with my objects highlighted because they were so darn small. I had to narrow it down carefully to find the area and zoom in up close before they finally really lit up.

thanks all.
i have searched from 1K above ground, to ground level and below.
nothing.
the missing item is the size of a ferris wheel ... so not something i can easily miss. this is why it's so mysterious. something that big i can't imagine missing. yet the prim count for that avi is still over 80. only about a dozen of which can be accounted for.
i'll have someone else do another search today. then i'll bite the bullet and do the return.

Just a warning!!! I used the return objects to return all my Ex's items. Of about 200 prims, she only received about 10! If I were in your position, I would return the items you can see one by one first. Cheers

From: Alt Aabye I used the return objects to return all my Ex's items. Of about 200 prims, she only received about 10! Could it not have been that those 10 prims that were returned to you hold all the items on the land linked together? When I was planning to make my land all empty and place all over again, I was warned not use "return object", because all items would be returned link together... so my house with all in it would be one object, named after a random part in the house. Return will only return NO COPY items. If the items are COPY, they will be deleted rather than returned.

*chimes in with the other posters*
It would be best for him to take everything he can see the normal way first (try it with a simple/expendable item first to make sure the grid is behaving, then clear cache, relog into a different sim and check that it's still there before going on to the rest) and only then return whatever he can't find.
Return does coalesce everything together, but it also has a irregular tedency to occasionally make things go *poof* to prim heaven.
You could also try looking for the item with a script if you know its exact name (96m radius) before going the return route.

Couldn't it be that you are focussing on the ground, while the object might be high in the sky? E.g. because a number was accidentally filled in in the Z-axis instead of X or Y.

just an update .... the land group had had a discussion today. it seems there was a misunderstanding about just what was lost. everything is cleared up. since this is a multi-national/multi-lingual group, sometimes there are misunderstandings. i won't have to go near the "return objects" function. whew. thanks everyone for your input.
