I know this sounds a little insane, but my av is tired from 2 weeks of building in the permanent midnight of the SL6B site and there is one more frantic week of the actual exhibition to go. I was thinking that a week "away" after it's all over would be just wonderful. I've been looking around for, preferably, an opensim or homestead tropical island that I can rent for just a week. I've seen some beautiful estates that would be perfect, but the ones I've seen wanted a purchase price and a 4-week tier payment. I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can take the holiday I seek. I can bring my own building and furniture if necessary, but I'd prefer a place where everything is provided - just like an RL vacation. Nickola just wants to lie in the sun, do a little swimming and maybe take her sailboat out for a spin. Thanks for any suggestions

I'm not sure if they have any openings, but one place you might check out is Junkyard Blues. 9 sims total, 7 of which are homestead, 2 are full sims. The two full sims have houseboat slips, cabins, trailers. Those two sims and the 9 are filled with water for swimming and sailing.
It isn't the typical tropical, if you are focused on that. It is a bayou setting.
They have events all the time, live singing or DJ's.
I rented there and got a cabin, unfurnished. Neat set of sims.

Vacations for all, and some place sunny!

Thanks for the Junkyard Blues tip, Lexxi. It's a great estate to just see.
I was looking for something more tropical, and it looks like all the rental places were full anyway, but I'll check back again after SL6B.

Just curious--did you really build with the viewer set to midnight, not changed to a daytime view? In regard to your question, I'm afraid I have no practical answers; I'm not fond of tropical locations myself.

Try Heartsdale Rentals. (Bo Heartsdale)
They have been around a while, they have many oceanfront homes, and are reasonable. Also you can rent by the week.

5 O'Clock Beach. Playing the steel drums there - especially a duet - is so relaxing.
Pep (Although I am not sure if they have properties for short term rental.)

From: Petronilla Whitfield Just curious--did you really build with the viewer set to midnight, not changed to a daytime view? Speaking for myself: I had to swap back and forth. Because light and glow and fullbright and everything else is so powerful in the dark, it's really necessary to look at the build in the dark to know what to build. It's more than just fine-tuning. On the other hand, it was damned near impossible to see what I was doing that way, so I'd flip to Midday settings for a lot of the time--especially texture alignment. (My build is really fussy because I have a layer of stuff underneath a semi-transparent layer of prims that replicate the ground texture, and align with the real ground surface. Getting that right was a pain!)

Thank you friends for all the tips. I'll check them out this week when I have a few minutes. From: Petronilla Whitfield Just curious--did you really build with the viewer set to midnight, not changed to a daytime view?
Hi Petronilla, Yes, I did build in the dark most of the time. I thought I should work with it, if that is the way the builds were going to be viewed. Of course, I would switch to midday now and again to do fiddly things, but then I'd go right back to the default midnight to check my work. Personally, I found building with light to be a great challenge and I even learned a few new tricks.

I know I did most of my build in the dark, as that was the settings the land was going to be set for when the event opens. Only way to get a sense of what a visitor was going to see on opening day. Like others, I'd force sun for fiddly stuff.

I dunno about rented cabins for some of these but they are nice spaces to just take a day and explore. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Pathfinder%20Lowlands/15/130/22 (islands) http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sasha/241/40/22 (campground) http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sasha/159/242/24 (little cabins on the sea, some may be for rent - you can rent weekly) http://slurl.com/secondlife/Proxima/192/162/62 (relax in a Roman bath) http://slurl.com/secondlife/Vertigo/32/110/22 (nice little hideaways over the water - not rentals but places to relax) http://slurl.com/secondlife/Penghu/38/224/24 (beautiful build of China, open to public)
