How is it mean to return something that doesn't belong to you and is using your prims?

Nothing mean at all about protecting the resources you are paying for. I'd set it for 1 minute, after making sure that all the prims I want to keep are set to the same group as the one that the land is set to, or that they all belong to you if you own the parcel without a group setting.

Mean? It doesn't belong to them, why should they have rights to keep stuff on other people's land indefinitely? It's generous enough to allow building, but autoreturn is key to stopping griefers.

Auto-return is mean? Is that why more people don't have it turned on? I think it's a courtesy to your neighbors to have it turned on since it will clear your land of junk people may leave behind while you're not on-line.
Please, everyone, if you can, turn on auto-return. Thanks. _____________________

I love auto-return! It's meaner to not turn it on, especially if you're a shop owner. It's a major stress reducer, in the terms of clutter, litter and sometimes scams, because they get swept right back into the person's inventory.
Imagine if there was no auto-return... *shudders* _____________________

One of our major land barons, who I will not name but she is starting a line of 10L goods on SLEX, owns the region in front of my house. I have to IM her helpers at least once a week due to people junking up the land. They can't turn on auto return, because they put some trees out. Then they wouldn't listen to how they could if the trees were set to group.

I have auto-return on 5 minutes. I don't mind if someone unpacks a box or something on my land... but they should not leave the garbage behind.
So after 5 minutes it is all returned to them. Morwen. |

Yeah it like should be the LAW that you have auto return on
![]() I have mine set to 180 mintes though, private sim, let people take stuff out and edit and whatnot, but then the sim/parcel is comepltely self cleaning. Even if you set it to 24 hours that would be a million times better than having it off. "Off" really shouldn't even be an option on public land :/ |

When I first bought land,I didn't know to turn auto return on. In about 24 hours there was a bunch of junk on my land. Strangest thing.

I'm surrounded by absentee landowners and I wish to god they'd turn auto-return on. Their plots are covered in junk and griefer droppings.

I set all my parcels to 60 minutes. It gives people plenty of time to rez things if they need to but simultaneously keeps the parcel clear of spam and looking pretty. I think setting to 1 minute or 5 even should only be done in areas where there are problems because otherwise it's just irritating to passers by.

Actually this brings me to a question that's bugging me. Bear with me please as a I try to explain.....because this is doing my blonde head in.
I'm in the process of setting up a little shop, with a little garden, seating, fun hang-out place in the front plus a changing room. The land is group owned, currently set to allow building etc for group only. The boxes in the shop will be mine. I want to allow building so people can open boxes and try outfits and such. But I don't want to have to manually delete any rubbish they leave behind. However, if the group-owned land is set to autoreturn, will that mean my boxes (and my shop!!!!) will be autoreturned to me as well? If so, is there a way around this? Also if i want to allow a friend to put out a few things for sale as well, how does that work? Any replies from you knowledgeable ones out there will be greatly appreciated ![]() Edit to add: and i may give out pie as a reward ![]() |

If you set your prims to the group that owns the land they will not be auto returned. You can see in the About Land Objects tab which objects are set to group and which are not.
You can either set prims through the Object editting tool or by having the group active when you rez the prims. _____________________

So if i wear my group tag when i put the stuff out it will still be owned by me but it won't be returned? And if my friend joins the group with restricted permissions, their stuff will also not be returned as long as they wear their group tag when they put the stuff out?
Can it really be that simple? |

If you live next to abandoned land with auto return shut off, you can prevent it from accumulating more trash by filling their prim limit with a tight stack of bare invisible prims. Is it wrong? Well, any griefer who would dump laggy, blinding trash on it doesn't own the land any more than you do, and the land owner abandoned SL, so you may as well max out the plot.
Things found on abandoned plots: - BIAB shops - Porn junk in PG sims - Freebies set for sale - Grief replicators - Squatting newbies - Sound-popping abandoned vehicles - Objects that spew particles into other parcels - Objects sticking into other parcels - Ad farms - Large plywood boxes blocking any of the above |

I have auto return set for 10 minutes...partly because I sometimes forget to toss my tag up when going through my inventory and dont want stuff sent back too fast. I have no build on so thats strictly for my own *hey dummy turn your tag on* benefit. When a grid attack is going on, that gets turned down to 1.

Still waiting for the OP to return to this thread and explain how auto-return is "mean."
