It has been brought to my attention that the Builders of Second Life group has only one officer left, who is me.

The Officer role does not have the powers needed to run the group properly.

I'm not a premium member, so I can't use Live Chat or file a support ticket about it.

I've sent the founder, who is no longer in the group, an IM and a notecard about the situation.

What does one do in this situation?

I'll go to Help Island and see if I happen to spot a Linden.

I thought a group had to have someone in the owner spot. Used to be, the only "owner" could not leave a group unless they appointed a new owner first.

I'm seeing a quantity of zero in the Owner role in Group Info display.

Perhaps this is possible because it's such an old group.

There have been instances where a group founder who had left the group was able to get a Linden to reinstate them as owner, though that could just be a random thing depending on which Linden they asked.

Your title is owner. Does that mean you've [RESOLVED] this or does the title not match the role?

If you haven't resolved this, ask one of your premium members, preferably concierge level, to ask to have you promoted to owner, and of course explain why that's needed. The worst that can happen is they say no and ban you for somethingerother.

I did get an owner appointed; a Linden in world at Help Island Public took care of it in short order upon IMing them. Perhaps unfortunately for the group, the new owner is me, but at least it does have an owner now. I didn't realize it at the time, but there is actually a Linden staffer in the group.

I have also appointed several people to Officer status, the powers of which are primarily to invite or eject members. So we can take new members, and kick out people if they are too obnoxious in the group chat.

This is a question and answer group, not a land owning group, similar in purpose to the long running Scripters of Second Life group, except for building.

I'm not much of a builder at all, which is not real cool for a builder's question and answer group, but at least the group has an owner now.

I appointed my alternate account SuezanneC Blackflag to be an owner also, in case I accidentally leave the group as SuezanneC Baskerville, there will still be an owner.

There's a good chance that the roles and abilities of Owner, Officer, and Everyone could be improved. I've not dealt with this sort of thing much at all.

I guess I'll start trying to log in and build things and take some building lessons while figuring out what to do next.

I have the exact same problem; and have wondered how to resolve it. My question is, did the Linden ask you anything about how you are so sure the owner has left SL? I know in my case, he has but I have no way to prove it. He doesn't come up in Search anymore and has told me he's removed his SL viewer and is not returning. How does one prove that?
