I am new and I have a question. Last night I was at the Ivory Tower of Prim. (PG)working on some tutorials when...out of nowhere comes a flying sign that was actually a penis laying on a slice of bread. then....two people having sex with the words, "Jesus F****** Christ written under it, as well as a nazi sign. All of these flying objects took control of the tower so that I could barely type. Now...I have gone through some report abuse tutorials but I wasn't aware that I needed a name to report the abuse. I'm not quick enough on SL to click the flying objects and get a name. And...as I stated, I could barely move in the area because of the objects slowing me down. How exactly does one report without a name. There was one other guy in the room with me, but I couldn't tell if it was him creating the chaos. He acted like it wasn't. There has to be an easier and quicker way to report abuse that is happening in a large area to many people apart from indivdual avatar to avatar griefs that don't affect large areas or large numbers of people. I froze and sent a crash report and signed back on but never actually got my abuse report filled out. What should I have done differently. It sure would be nice to be able to click screen shot (for specific abuse report purposes only) and obtain the picture as well as capture the very very basic identifying properties of all the objects in the picture in the form of a written log file generated with the screen shot. With the description, you'd know exactly where to look in the file to nab the offender. I have been on SL for about a week and I have been griefed at least four times and I haven't been able to report it once because I have been unable to get any control of the environment that I was in to obtain the information I need to send an abuse report. I have a brand new, up to date computer and those pictures slowed me down until I crashed, taking with it the snap shot of the penis on the slice of bread that I was going to save and send to you.

The process for abuse reporting an object is totally asinine, isn't it?

Two and a half years ago, you could actually notify a Linden in real time and occasionally get a response. Now, even if you do manage to file an abuse report (which is nowhere near as easy as it should be, obviously), it will be weeks before you find out whether it was effective.

This thread talks about the same incident. Might help you find who to ar.

One way to get a screenshot, on a Windows computer, is to press PrintScreen, then open Microsoft Paint, which loads fast, create a new file, and Paste. You can save the file and flip back to SL to get another shot if you want. This might be faster and work better than trying to take snapshots through SL while being griefed.

Sometimes the simplest way to increase your satisfaction with SL with the the least effort when there's a griefing attack is simply to go somewhere else and do something else for a while. This doesn't produce a feeling of justice having been done, but it takes little effort.

If the griefing involves a lot of particles, if you have the Advanced menu showing, you can turn particles off by pressing Control Alt Shift EqualSign, Ctrl/Alt/Shift/= . This might solve your griefing problem completely if the griefing consists solely of particles. If not, it might at least make it more pleasant and easier to find the objects that are doing the griefing.

To turn on the Advanced menu, press Control Alt D, or on some systems, Control Alt Shift D.

You do have to get a name some way or another in order to file an abuse report. Sometimes when objects are moving fast, they move in a regular manner, and you can time your right clicks after observing a few cycles of motion. Also, you might shift your camera so that you are looking along the primary axis of motion of the griefing object rather than perpendicular to it.

Some folks suggest that if you can't get the correct name, file an abuse report using Governor Linden and explain what's happening as best you can in the abuse report.

You do get to send a snapshot of the screen at the time when you select the abuse report option, if you remember to check the include snapshot option.

If you have a correct name, then before you send the abuse report, you can open the griefer's profile, and copy and paste the text of the abuse report into the Notes tab of their profile, so next time you have a boiler plate to use if they repeat their actions.

The AR process needs tweaking.

It's hard during a grief attack to try and cam around and get a screen shot and sometimes it just isn't possible to do it in time.

There also isn't a way to attach a notecard or to copy or paste much of the room chat anyway.

I've rarely ARed anyone, once for really bad griefing combined with racist insults at someone who tried to come and get them to stop...things like that. But it does need tweaking, I think. It would also be nice if the person were notified of anything done as a result, they only list the most recent 25 incidents when you try to check later, I'm pretty sure.

Is it possible to file an AR without having a resident name attached to it? If not maybe it should be...sometimes it isn't really clear who's up to it, as you noted.

If I don't have a name... it gets AR'd to governor linden

I remember once, about a year ago or more, when I was getting hit with a texture bomb, and I couldn't teleport, couldn't hardly type, couldn't get any object's properties, etc., etc.

The *only* thing I could manage was to send a message to Live Help about the incident, but it took between 5 and 10 seconds per character to type out the message.

Then a Linden showed up and banned the griefer on the spot.

Back in those days, I felt having a premium account was worthwhile.

I filed an abuse report in the past few days and got a near instant response in IM from a Linden.

It was somewhat of a dismissal of my report, but it was instant.

*nodnods* Yes! Back during the days of Live Help, I was at the Linden Chateau or whatever they call it, hanging out as a dragon just for the pure amusement of it. A lot of newbies wound up there and so did the griefers. One such was an annoying little runt who had to cage everyone with those cheap cages. Sit on it and you were out of 'em types. So I tell the panicking newbs how to do this and then how to file an AR.

Finally got fed up, hopped on Live Help, reported the issue and out came a Linden. The idiot was banned and his cages were gone.

Another time brought out a Linden, who gave the band of idiots a warning to knock it off, got shot at and well, needless to say, that was the last shot they fired for a bit.

You can also send a IM to the land owner or business owner. If the lag is too bad, then write down everything you can. You can still send an IM or notecard(depending on what their Profile says) telling them of the incident. If everyone there also notifies the owner, said owner can add the offenders name to the Ban Access on About Land.

Put your cursor on the building's objects to get the owner's name or camera down to the ground, then right click About Land on the pie menu to get the landowner's name. Don't forget the name of the store, sim name and co-ordinates, time and date, and what other detail you can. Adding a Printscreen or SL snapshot will have somebody moving fast if they're online at the time.
