Dear Sir/Mdm., I am Chandra Gunawan, a final year student of University of London External Program, currently working on a research project on the critical success factors of virtual world marketing in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry. Virtual world is an online persistent visual shared space featuring interactivity and real world socialization. The examples are Second Life, There.com, Club Penguin, Sony Home, etc. Because of vast potential benefits it offers, real-world companies like Coca-cola, CosmoGirl, Nike, Adidas, Toyota, etc. have used it as a new medium for marketing activities. This survey aims to gather your views and/or experiences on the critical success factors of virtual world marketing in the FMCG industry. Please go to http://www.eSurveysPro.com/Survey.aspx?id=1d6fc549-8e64-4400-b243-12a1d4fbe460 to access this survey before 19 January 2009. This survey should not take more than 15 minutes to complete. Your response will be treated with utmost confidentiality and you may discard it anytime you wish. I would like to thank you for your time and effort to complete this survey and I would be more than happy to share with you my findings, if you indicate this at the end of my questionnaire. Finally, it would be greatly appreciated if you could help me distribute this survey to your contacts or other relevant parties. Yours faithfully, Chandra Gunawan chandraong@gmail.com (65) 9774 5477 Singapore Institute of Management Singapore

I come into Second Life to ESCAPE from marketing. So, sorry -- I can't help you. On the other hand, maybe I should take the survey to ensure the failure of virtual world marketing.

for a start you should learn that you shouldn't spam forums and post more than once, especially in threads that are not related to the question.

I looked at the survey because we are looking at using Second Life for RL business purposes (Education)
OP: your survey made my eyes glaze over. It is meant for people who either understand marketing concepts or are willing to pay close attention to the explanations for your questions and statements. It isn't likely that you'll find that level of interest in this forum, which is already inundated with requests for surveys. Nor are a significant number of people here likely to be involved/concerned with the data you are looking for and, at best, you'll get some wild guesses.

From: Balancios Diesel Dear Sir/Mdm.,
I am Chandra Gunawan, a final year student of University of London External Program And I'm Mary Poppins. Pleased to make your acquaintance. From: someone currently working on a research project on the critical success factors of virtual world marketing in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry. You mean that's not a randomly-generated term? Well, I'll be...! From: someone Virtual world is an online persistent visual shared space featuring interactivity and real world socialization. That sounds pretty cool. I should try one of those. Where can I find one? From: someone Because of vast potential benefits it offers, real-world companies like Coca-cola, CosmoGirl, Nike, Adidas, Toyota, etc. have used it as a new medium for marketing activities. Because there there just aren't enough ads in the world. Good plan. From: someone This survey aims to gather your views and/or experiences on the critical success factors of virtual world marketing in the FMCG industry. You still insist that's not written by a random buzzword generator? Really?

Take your Fast Moving Consumer Goods and stick them up "There". I just saved 14 minutes and 45 seconds.

Possibly, no guarantee, you might get a more enthusiastic response by posting at the Association of Virtual Worlds, at http://network.associationofvirtualworlds.com, or you might see if there's anywhere in linkedin you could post a request to take a survey. Even facebook might have some virtual world oriented groups where group members could post a single request to complete a survey without meeting with too much hostility.

From: Qie Niangao So, Brenda, will the pup have pics? I mean, as an antidote to lolcatz? You mean pics of him chasing all the neighborhood cats around? Not a bad idea.

Welcome Chandra and good luck with your studies. I fear people may not be too terribly helpful here; forum regulars (the sort that would reply or possibly take part in your survey from here) have become a bit resistant. Reason why, is that the vast number of people seeing the emerging market and trying to mine early adopters for data. The early adopters quickly become hostile after the 100th survey. Furthermore, some of us are very much 'in the business' also. We are about as likely to share what we know, as the average business owner is likely to leave the shop door open and the safe unlocked all weekend. The information you seek would be quite useful in the right hands. I wish you well, and expect you will be quite successful in your own life very soon. Warm regards, Des

I got disoriented reading the OP because the language and tone is exactly like those emails we all get about some gentleman in a third world country who needs "help" claiming a large sum of money. (Am I reading email, no wait I AM reading the forum. Sheesh).
