(The real) Gadget Resell

Heya guys! I'm new to all of this and I was wondering if I could have some advice.
I have scripted a gadget and I went looking for some places to sell it. One of my friends, who owns lots of shops for gadget resell, offered to resell it for me if I give him 20% of all rev that he makes from my gadget. Is 20% a good amount? Or is it too high?

5-30% Commission is about basic, especially for a free space in a shop =)

there are lots of free spaces to sell it on your own, and then you can keep 100% for yourself.

to name just one off the top of my head - try an industrial build in the southern portion of Morton Mains. i can't remember the name, but if you fly around you are sure to find it.

if you decide to allow reselling, make sure you don't give full permissions to the seller. if so, they might simply steal your product and sell it as their own.

anyway considering you will have to pay for a vendor to put it in .. to split the profits or to make affiliate sales...

20% is a good commission, pretty standard. Some people will offer only 10, but they don't get as many takers.

I look at it like this. If your item costs 100L, you're giving him 20L, and keeping 80L. If you have your own shop, you'd get to keep all 100L from each sale, but putting your vendor up in a friend's shop means more sales you might not have gotten anyways. So you're not LOSING 20L, you're GAINING 80L.

Many times, it's "safer" to sell on commission.. it ends up being more expensive than just renting a space in a mall, if your item is popular... but if your item is NOT a fast seller in that location, the rental method could end up COSTING YOU MONEY.

I like commission sales.

You should search for free spots and use SLX and onrez as you already are. However you may aswell let your friend sell the item for 20% commision as well. You want as much exposure for your product as you can get and selling it in multiple locations is a good way to start. Getting 80% of the proceeds from your friends shop is better than getting nothing for not bothering. Also, I would hope your friend has an established business and reasonable traffic so it could benefit you to sell from that location. Look at it as a temporary deal. If your products are good then you should be able to generate enough income in a short amount of time to cover a premium account which will give you 512 sqm tier for free. You can then buy a 512sqm plot, set up your own store without investing a penny of rl money. Thats how I got started. Admitedly it was allot easier years ago but the principles are the same. You just need to work hard and create a good quality desirable product.

If I was you and had built a nifty gadget that I thought would sell well then I would be contacting every gadget store in SL to propse commision selling.

Ok. He las lots of stores, so I guess it is a pretty good deal. I'm selling the gadget for 500L, so I would gain about 400L from each sell. I do expect it to be pretty popular, but if it were to get popular, it would have been a nice thing of me to do to let him get 20%.

Utilize the free vendor space, but get a Premium account and get a 512 plot of land and set up a permanent store. It will pay for itself in a hurry.

The next version has more features, I update daily. Once I have my big forums release for my gadget and tell people how they can make plugins for the gadget (people already can, I just haven't told them how), I'll consider getting prem and hope that it pays for itself. I'm, truely glad that you like it. you have made my week XD

users here are definitely keen enough to just search on slex or onrez now, so I think you did what you came here to do

try hitting the advice on sales, all of us in there are sharing ideas and such for marketing and sales

I think I will stick with my mysti tool, does all the things in need in a nice pop up menu, not a drop down hud menu

Meh. I'll be honest. I had no idea that would happen. I DID mention I had it on slex and onrez to show that I wasn't lazy and just asking for advice on how to market my gadget, and to prove that I'm not just sucking in ideas but actually working too. Actually making a sale wasn't one of my intentions. (I'm not saying I'm not glad that it happened.)
